Tennis Betting Advice - April 2018
This week's picks - at 14/1 and 20/1...
Monday 9th April 2018
In your Ones to Watch email today:
One set away...
We were one set away from getting a 25/1 shot into a final last week, with our Each Way pick Sachia Vickery reaching the semi finals at WTA Monterrey.
Our underdog selection put a good run together including knocking out the top player from her side of the draw, Magdalena Rybarikova, in the quarter finals.
In the end though the 22-year-old Vickery lost out to the more experienced Timea Babos in the semi final, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.
I always like to take the positives and I’m happy with our pick there; obviously we wanted the payout but the more we get these big-price players into good positions like semi finals, the more likely we are to land enough of the big wins to get in profit over the course of the season.
14/1 and 20/1 picks for today...
Play starts around 2pm (UK time) on day one of this week’s clay court events in Marrakech, Morocco and Lugano, Switzerland – so I’ll keep things brief with my first Outright Winner picks of the week.
There are a total of four clay events taking place across the Men’s ATP and Women’s WTA tours this week.
These two catch my eye today...
At ATP Marrakech, last year’s beaten semi-finalist Benoit Paire is my pick at 14/1 Each Way. The Frenchman is a player we’ve backed before – with hit or miss results – but ultimately he remains a talented player to look out for when the prices and draw look good...
This small-scale ATP 250 event fits the bill, with none of the World’s Top 25 in action here.
Kyle Edmund (#29) was a player I was looking out for but odds of 7/1 don’t offer us much value potential. Instead, Paire at twice the price is the pick – his only career ATP title to date was on clay, his ability is not in question and if he hits a good run this week then there’s no reason he can’t go all the way.
First up is a match against the now-veteran Gilles Simon, who is a wily competitor but has been out of form for some time now.
In the WTA Lugano event – a ‘new’ tournament with the women’s tour returning to the Swiss city for the first time since 1986 – we should follow up on last week’s Ones to Watch EXTRA player and back clay specialist Laura Siegemund to continue her comeback from injury...
At odds of 20/1 Each Way she’s a nice outsider price and again this is a pretty low-key event in terms of tournament status and the depth of the field.
There are no players inside the Top 15 in the draw here. World No.19 Kristina Mladenovic (14/1) is a potential 2nd Round opponent for Siegemund but the German has a 2-0 head-to-head record against Mladenovic, including a win on clay last year before injury struck.
Elsewhere in the Lugano draw big things are expected of one our Ones to Watch in 2018, Anett Kontaveit, who has been priced up as the tournament favourite at as short as 3/1. We want bigger odds than that.
Siegemund is a player I want to follow on the clay this season and odds of 20/1 are big enough for us to speculatively get behind her to step up her comeback this week.
