Tennis Betting Advice - April 2022

Four tournaments for us next week...

Thursday 14th April 2022

Alex De Minaur came roaring out the blocks yesterday – playing a near-perfect set of tennis to take the opening against Andrey Rublev, 6-2. Our 11/4 match underdog couldn’t quite keep that level up though, and the world no.8 eventually turned it around to win 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Keep an eye on Rublev’s nerves though; as I said yesterday, he can get a bit shaky in high-pressure situations. In the final set v De Minaur, Andrey was 5-1 up… but ended up having to save break points when serving for the match for a second time at 5-4, to prevent the Australian from drawing level. In that final game, Rublev hit two double faults in a row, with one of them coming on match point.

In the Outright Winner betting, we’ve got two 20-year-olds in the running here in Monte Carlo – with the Last 16 matches taking place today…

Jannik Sinner (20/1+) gets to take on Rublev in the headline match later today. The bookies make it 50-50. Sinner has looked a little physically uncomfortable at times in the opening two rounds – clutching his stomach area once or twice. But it’s a testament to what a good player he is that the young Italian has still come through with ultimately impressive performances. And his 2nd-round win was more convincing than his 1st-round one.

Our really big price is Lorenzo Musetti (100/1 – 66/1). Another exciting young Italian, Musetti was a deserving against-the-odds victor over Felix Auger-Aliassime on Wednesday. While the Canadian world no.9 has now lost five of his last six matches on tour, Ones to Watch in 2022 name Musetti has now won four out of five clay-court matches this season. He faces another tough – but not impenetrable – opponent today, Diego Schwartzman. The Monte Carlo crowd will be behind Lorenzo.

There’s a Bank Holiday weekend coming up. I’ll be back next week, when we have four more clay-court tournaments to look forward to…

  • WTA 250 Istanbul – TEB BNP Paribas Tennis Championship Istanbul
  • WTA 500 Stuttgart – Porsche Tennis Grand Prix
  • ATP 250 Belgrade – Serbia Open
  • ATP 500 Barcelona – Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell

Have a good Easter weekend. And enjoy the tennis…

Best wishes,

Tom Wilson
