A semi final saver for 40/1 Jarry…
Thursday 2nd August 2018
In your Ones to Watch email today:
From 40/1 to favourite…
You never know which of our players is going to come through and put a run together. So far this week, Nicolas Jarry is blazing a trail for our Ones to Watch picks. The 22-year-old Chilean is through to the ATP Kitzbuhel semi finals, where he’ll play Denis Istomin for a place in the final.
With the pre-tournament favourites (and top two seeds) Dominic Thiem and Philipp Kohlschreiber out, Jarry now finds himself at the top of the betting, with four men left standing in this Austrian clay-court event. As I write on Thursday evening, Paddy Power make Jarry the 9/5 (2.80) market leader.
A semi final saver for Jarry…
Having backed Jarry in the Outright Winner market at the start of the week at prices as big as 40/1, 33/1 and 25/1 Each Way, the sensible move is to now have a ‘saver bet’ on his semi final opponent, Denis Istomin, to beat him.
If you originally staked 1 point Each Way on Jarry (eg. 2 pts total), then staking 1.5 pts on Istomin in the semi final Match Winner market at odds of 11/8+ (2.38+) will cover your entire stakes, should Jarry lose. And doing so won’t make too much of a dent in the potential place profits for making the final, should our man win on Friday afternoon.
