All set for New York…

As expected…

The week before a Grand Slam is never a good time to back the big names. They have bigger fish to fry. This much we already know.

It’s a shame there’s no such betting market as ‘Player to Withdraw from Tournament’ – because if there was, I’d have had three out of three winners this week…

On Monday I said I’d be surprised if World No.1 Simona Halep, No.5 Petra Kvitovaand last week’s Cincinnati champion Kiki Bertens made it through the week in New Haven. All three have played a lot of matches recently and a break before the US Open would make sense.

As anticipated, Halep and Bertens both pulled out of New Haven without even hitting a ball. Kvitova followed them last night, ducking out after losing the first set in her quarter final match.

That leaves the bottom half of the New Haven draw with tonight’s semi final made up of World No.30 Carla Suarez Navarro v No.72 Monica Puig. At the start of the week, those players were 22/1 and 33/1 respectively. We were right to go for an outsider in that section. My 28/1 pick Anett Kontaveit went out to Puig. But we’re hunting in the right areas of the map.

And next week we’ll have plenty of chances to ‘go big’ once again…

All set for New York…

The US Open draws have been made. We’re all set for two weeks of top-notch tennis in New York…

Plays starts on Monday. I’ll be in touch with your first US Open ‘Bets of the Day’ email at 10am that day.

You’ll receive emails from me EVERY DAY of the US Open fortnight, from 27th August to 9th September.

Monday’s email will contain the first bet advice, including my Each Way picks in the Outright Winner markets.

I’ll see you on Monday morning!

Enjoy the tennis…

Best wishes,
