Big Sam at 33/1...
Wednesday 27th February 2019
In your Ones to Watch email today:
ATP Acapulco – One to Watch at 33/1...
Two weeks ago we backed Sam Querrey in New York at 9/1. Today we can get him at 33/1 in Acapulco...
The 6’6” American made the semi finals in New York, only just edged out by two sets to one in a tense battle for a place in the final.
At big prices, Big Sam is a worthy outside bet on the hard courts at ATP Acapulco, a tournament where he has done well before. Querrey won this tournament in 2017, and made the semi finals in 2016.
Sam won his 1st Round match on Tuesday with the minimum of fuss, 6-3, 6-2. He faced no break points, served 15 Aces and won a scary 97% of points on his first serve.
Right now we can get 33/1 for Querrey, which is the same price as he was at the start of the tournament. That will change if he beats fellow big-serving American, John Isner tonight...
The 6’10” Isner is never an easy opponent for anyone. But Sam has had a good read on him over the years, with a 5-2 career head-to-head that could prove significant in tonight’s battle of the big serves.
And unlike Querrey, Isner has struggled at this tournament in recent times. A 2-1 win in the 1st Round this week marks the first time in five attempts that Isner has got past the opening round in Acapulco.
World No.2 Rafael Nadal is the big name lurking in this side of the draw. Rafa is also a previous winner of this event. But Querrey beat him in the 2017 final, and in terms of price I’d much rather be on 33/1 for the American here, rather than short-price favourite odds of just 7/4 (2.75) for Nadal. And if those two end up meeting in the semi finals, we can work with the odds in our favour.
