In your Ones to Watch email today:
Melbourne update – play resumes tonight…
After a brief scare yesterday, fingers-crossed it all looks okay for play to get back underway in Melbourne.
Obviously, health comes first. Australia’s strict & swift coronavirus measures were brought into action, with the Thursday order of play cancelled after one person tested positive.
All the players and staff were immediately ordered to take a test, and self-isolate for the day until the results came back.
At lunchtime today UK-time, which is late evening Down Under, Friday’s fresh order of play was released. Meaning there’s been a green light from the powers that be for the tennis to get back going again.
The three matches I mentioned in yesterday’s email, involving our Outright Winner picks for this week’s tournaments in Melbourne. Will now be played tonight and in the early hours of Friday morning.
The players that we’ve got running for us are: Elise Mertens, Kevin Anderson, and Borna Coric. Full details are in yesterday’s update, here.
Australian Open coming up next…
Not long to go now until the main event at Melbourne Park…
The Australian Open draw will be made within the next 24 hours. The first matches will start late on Sunday night, UK time. With the tournament running for the next two weeks, from 8th – 21st February.
I’ll be in touch on Friday with my plan of action for the Aussie Open. Then with your Day 1 email and first Outright Winner picks on Sunday.
P.S
My colleague Nick Pullen has written a great article today about the new measures being considered by the Gambling Commission – and how you can have your say. Nick is our racing analyst, but this is a subject that very much applies to all of us sports fans that enjoy a bet. I’d encourage you to take a look, and read Nick’s article here.
Enjoy the tennis…
Best wishes,
Tom Wilson
