Tennis Betting Advice - February 2023

February calendar - and first-time finalists...

Monday 6th February 2023

I’ve just been updating the tournament Calendar on our website…

February is a busy month, with 19 events taking place in total across the full-level ATP & WTA Tours.

We won’t be betting on all 19 of them (and next week I’m taking some time off). But we can expect to get involved in a fair few of those upcoming tournaments. Sticking as ever to our Ones to Watch modus operandi:

  • In the Outright Winner markets – we back appealing outsiders at attractive Each Way prices

Maiden winners…

Youngsters and newcomers can often provide those big tournament payouts. The new season has started with a flurry of first-time trophy winners on the circuit. Encouraging signs for underdog followers like us…

There have been 10 tournaments across the men’s ATP and women’s WTA tours so far in 2023. In that time:

  • 7 players have made their debut in a tour-level final
  • And 3 have won their first title

If we look at the first Grand Slam of the year, too. Aryna Sabalenka won the women’s event in Melbourne – her first Grand Slam final, and first Major title.

Last week’s tennis saw both trophies going to maiden winners

With Lin Zhu taking the honours at WTA Hua Hin in Thailand – her first WTA singles title, age 29.

And Alycia Parks reigning supreme at WTA Lyon in France. With the 22-year-old American putting in a statement performance that prompted us to back her at odds of 80/1, 50/1 or 40/1 for this summer’s US Open. Read last night’s update here.

A history of big-odds finalists in Cordoba…

Here are the five events taking place this week:

  • WTA 500 Abu Dhabi - Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open - Hard Courts
  • WTA 250 Linz - Upper Austria Ladies Linz - Indoor Hard
  • ATP 250 Montpellier - Open Sud de France - Indoor Hard
  • ATP 250 Cordoba - Cordoba Open - Clay
  • ATP 250 Dallas - Dallas Open - Indoor Hard

As I say, we won’t be betting in all of these events. And there are international time differences and start times to consider, too.

But we’ll certainly be taking an interest in one or two this week. I’m working on my selections now. Look out for an update from me tomorrow morning (Tuesday AM).

For example, at ATP Cordoba in Argentina, there’s a history of big-odds finalists…

50/1 Runner-Up in 2022
100/1 Champion in 2021
150/1 Champion in 2019

Those are the kind of prices we like to see… and that event has only been running since 2019 (!).

With Cordoba the first men’s clay-court tournament of the season, perhaps there’s something in that big-odds trend…

I’ll be back tomorrow with more.
