Aus Open Day 11: Take it from here at 33/1...
Tuesday 23rd January 2024
Australian Open - Day 11
It’s a big night for our Ones to Watch picks…
In short:
If Linda Noskova and Qinwen Zheng both win their quarter final matches, then they’ll play each other in the semi finals. Guaranteeing us a player in the final - and an Each Way payout at least.
With Linda Noskova in the Outright book at 100/1 and bigger. And Qinwen Zheng backed at 33/1 - 28/1 on Day 1…
We’re in a promising position in this side of the women’s draw:
But there’s still work to do tonight. And I feel duty-bound to inform you of some ‘saver bet’ options today…
If you’re on Linda Noskova and Qinwen Zheng as previously advised, there are various ways you could stick or twist…
I’ve been giving this a lot of thought over the past 48 hours or so.
I’ve had the calculator out on more than one occasion…
I’ve looked at the match-ups in isolation…
I’ve looked at the tournament markets, and the bigger picture of how our Australian Open 2024 book is shaping up…
My recommendations are as follows - should you choose to follow me…
1) Back both Yastremska and Kalinskaya for the trophy - guaranteeing us a player in the final…
And:
2) A double on Yastremska and Kalinskaya to win tonight’s quarter final matches…
My thinking being:
The worst case scenario for us tonight would be if Noskova and Zheng were to both lose in the quarter finals - leaving us empty-handed in the women’s event.
On the Outright front, we can make our moves today to guarantee we have a player competing for the trophy in this weekend’s final, whatever happens.
And we can oppose our original two Ones to Watch picks in today’s Match Winner markets. With the overnight outcome being either a payout from a winning double to put us some points in the bank, or we get one of our Each Way picks through to the semi finals. With 100/1+ Noskova the star attraction of course. And 33/1 Qinwen Zheng next in line.
Staking:
Not forgetting…
In the men’s Outright Winner betting, we have 80/1+ Ones to Watch pick Hubert Hurkacz…
Hubi is also competing in the quarter finals tonight. Unlike our women’s picks Noskova and Zheng, Hurkacz is the 2/1 underdog to win his quarter final. On the positive, as noted when we first backed him last week, the big-serving Pole does have a 4-2 career head-to-head record in his favour against his opponent, Daniil Medvedev.
With either Alexander Zverev or headline name Carlos Alcaraz awaiting the winner of this match in the semi finals, Hurkacz would also go into that encounter as the underdog.
No further advice from me on Hubi. He feels like a long-shot, and that’s okay…
But that big serve might just take him closer to the trophy than people think…
Statistically speaking, Hurkacz is the no.1 server in the men’s game right now. He’s hit the Most Aces in this tournament. And Medvedev has hit the Most Double Faults…
All told, we’re on some exciting underdog prospects, as we approach the sharp end of the Australian Open…
