The other teenager…
Dayana Yastremska is going for it. She plays win-or-bust tennis, going for winners whenever she can.
So far, the plan is paying off for the 19-year-old Ukrainian…
Yastremka came through a feisty match against Viktorija Golubic on Friday, 7-5, 6-3. Dayana reeled off 37 Winners – and 36 Unforced Errors. And she served more Double Faults than Aces.
Numbers like those are indicative of the way this exciting youngster plays. It’s a style that can intimidate and overwhelm opponents. She believes and expects to win.
Going into that match, Yastremska had hit more Winners than anyone else in the tournament – man or woman.
She moves into the 4th Round, reaching the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time. And with Caroline Wozniacki knocked out yesterday, our pick will go into that one as the favourite to book a spot in the quarter finals.
We saw Jelena Ostapenko win the French Open 2017 at 100/1, playing a similar brand of ‘attack mode’ tennis. We got on Yastremska as One to Watch at 100/1 in the build up to Wimbledon. Then consolidated that with a 33/1 pick after the 2nd Round. She’s now 20/1.
There are two teenagers left in the tournament. Everyone’s talking about Cori Gauff. And rightly so. The 15-year-old has lit up week one – including an amazing Centre Court debut last night, saving two match points to book a place in the 4th Round. The young American is around 10/1 in the Outright Winner market, and was 50/1 at the start of the week.
In terms of price, we’re on the other teenager at bigger odds – and I’m happy with that. Less people are talking about Yastremska, but make no mistake: she’s the real deal, too.
An update on our other Outright Winner picks:
Set Betting picks for a super Saturday…
We bet at big prices. That’s what we do. That’s my approach to the tennis. And we’re going for a big one today…
These three Women’s matches have the look of three-set battles to me. And to get the best prices, picking a winner and backing the 2-1 Set Betting score in each match is the plan of attack:
Kiki Bertens to win 2-1 v Barbora Strycova @ 3/1+ (4.00+)
Bertens is the match favourite here but had to come from behind in the last round, saving a match point. Strycova has beaten her before and will attempt to serve & volley to cause the upset. Bertens to edge it.
Qiang Wang to win 2-1 v Elise Mertens @ 4/1+ (5.00+)
Wang is the underdog here but has won all three of their previous meetings, all by the 2-1 score. She stands out as the value in this match, with another tight encounter on the cards.
Julia Goerges to win 2-1 v Serena Williams @ 9/2+ (5.50+)
Goerges has never beaten Serena but this looks her best opportunity yet. The German made the Birmingham final on grass last month, and along with Wang is ranked in the Top 3 for 1st Serve Points Won so far this week (83%). Williams has looked a little rusty in the opening rounds and while always dangerous, she’s not the force she used to be. Goerges can avenge last summer’s Wimbledon semi final defeat to Serena today – but it will likely take the full three sets if she does.
The advice is three Singles on those 2-1 scores. And the Treble for a 100/1+ whopper.
The top price on the multiple is 156/1 with Marathonbet. Followed by 142/1 at Bet365, 126/1 with 888 Sport & Unibet, 114/1 Boylesports, 112/1 Betway. The Set Betting prices quoted above come out at 109/1 with BetVictor, Ladbrokes and Skybet.
Betting to level stakes, if one of these 2-1 scores comes in, we’ll be good for the day.
Play starts at 11am.
Today’s bets:
