ATP Newport today: Kevin's on the comeback...

Thursday 20th July 2023

Good afternoon. With Wimbledon ending on a 40/1 high for us, we move on today with an underdog to follow at the ATP Newport event on grass in the USA...

Today's quarter-final matches start from 5.30pm, UK time. And I've got a four-week-old baby making demands of me (!). So I'll keep this info short and sweet this afternoon:

Kevin Anderson has come out of retirement, and what better ATP Tour event for our former 50/1 Wimbledon finalist to choose for his comeback than the Hall of Fame Open on the grass at Rhode Island...

Indeed, Newport was the last tournament that Big Kev won (2021), before he originally hung up his racket.

Now age 37 and currently without a ranking, the former world no.5 has turned up in good shape here this week. Winning through the first two rounds without dropping a set. And with his big serve in fine working order so far, if the 6'8" South African's body can cope with the match schedule, then he might well go all the way to the final once again...

Anderson appeals as the match underdog v Ugo Humbert this evening (approx. 7.30pm).

And Kevin also merits support at odds of 14/1 and 12/1 Each Way in the tournament Outright Winner market, which will be online until the day's first match begins at 5.30pm.

If Anderson does win this evening's match v Humbert, then he'll take a positive career head-to-head into the semi-finals against either Jordan Thompson (3-0) or Adrian Mannarino (7-2)...
