There are six tournaments on the schedule this week. The key one for us takes place in the USA. With the men's tour returning to the hard courts for the annual instalment of the ATP Atlanta Open...
This is the first hard-court event since March. Marking the start of the build-up to next month's US Open in New York.
I'm keeping things straightforward here with two picks in the top half of the draw. Opposing our friend Taylor Fritz, was has looked a bit out of sorts recently - and may not prove much value as the 10/3 (4.33) favourite. Fritz has made the semi final and final in his last two visits here, but has never won the title. Unlike the man who knocked him out last year, six-time Atlanta champion John Isner...
Age 38, big John might not have many title attempts left in him. But the all-important big serve is still there. And so's the desire to compete - especially at home in the States, as shown by reaching the semi finals on grass at Newport, Rhode Island just last week.
Isner has won Atlanta six times, including his most recent tour triumph, here in 2021. And as we've noted before, a family man who loves to play his tennis in North America: 14 of John's 16 career titles have come in the good ol' U.S of A.
Let's take the widely available 12/1 for the experienced Isner this week. A man who has made the final in nine out of 12 trips to Atlanta overall.
And we'll also take a flyer on a much younger, up-and-coming American talent. The dynamic and hungry left-hander, Ben Shelton. Available at 22/1...
The 20-year-old has cracked the Top 40 this year, and reached a maiden Grand Slam quarter final (Australian Open, hard courts). And Ben just so happens to be a home boy from Atlanta, Georgia. The stage could be set for a breakout run in his back yard...
