WTA Mallorca – Bencic in the quarter finals…
Thursday 20th June 2019
In your Ones to Watch email today:
We were right to look beyond the favourites at Queen’s this week.
Pre-tournament market leaders Juan Martin Del Potro and Marin Cilic are both out. Cilic lost 2-0 in the 2nd Round. And unfortunately, Del Potro has suffered yet another injury – he requires knee surgery and will now miss Wimbledon.
Our 40/1 outsider pick Dan Evans put up a good effort against Stan Wawrinka, in a match that took a while to get played & completed because of the rain at Queen’s Club. But ultimately Stan was too strong on serve. Wawrinka then got knocked out in the next round by veteran & underdog, Nicolas Mahut.
Over in Mallorca we’ve got a player in the quarter finals…
Our 9/1 or 8/1 Each Way pick Belinda Bencic hasn’t played her best stuff yet and has looked a bit sulky on court at times this week. But she’s through to the quarter finals…
With two grass court matches under her belt, I’m anticipating a sharper performance from Belinda against the dangerous teenager, Amanda Anisimova.
The bookies make Bencic the 4/6 (1.67) favourite for the match, and our pick is now the 4/1 joint-favourite for the title.
Friday’s play starts at 11am UK time. Bencic v Anisimova is scheduled as the second match.
I’ll be back over the weekend if there’s any more advice or betting action for us in this week’s tournaments. And we’ll be having our first picks for next week before play starts in Antalya and Eastbourne on Monday morning. After that – we’re off to Wimbledon…
Enjoy the tennis…
Best wishes,
Tom Wilson
