Tennis Betting Advice - June 2022
ATP Eastbourne – outside chances at 40/1 & 33/1...
Monday 20th June 2022
Good morning. The week before Wimbledon is a busy one. As well as a mountain of matches in the qualifying rounds for next week’s grass-court Grand Slam. There are four tournaments taking place right now across the ATP & WTA Tours…
I’ve got lots to tell you about this week, in preparation for the big one at SW19. But with play starting at 11am today at ATP Eastbourne, I wanted to get my first pick out to you this morning:
MAXIME CRESSY
The 25-year-old is involved in an all-American, big-serving clash with the higher-ranked Reilly Opelka this morning. I don’t like Opelka as the favourite at all here. Despite possessing the big serve that traditionally should suit a grass game, Opelka has often cut a dejected (even uninterested) figure on grass and in England. He hasn’t won a match on turf since 2019, and has a losing overall career win-loss record on the green stuff of 6-12.
Cressy on the other hand has shown signs of stepping up his game this season, and has the serve & volley habit classically proven to deliver on grass. Like Reilly, Maxime also serves a bundle of aces. In their only previous meeting, on hard courts in Australia at the start of the year, Cressy prevailed 4-6, 7-6, 7-6. That day, the underdog hit the most double faults (10) and Opelka prevailed on the ace count (with 29) – but it was the unheralded Cressy that ultimately won the important points.
Cressy went on to reach a maiden ATP final that week in Melbourne, as a 50/1 shot. He’s 40/1 and 33/1 here in Eastbourne, and I like those Each Way outsider prices, as well as Evens+ to take the scalp of Opelka today.
