Tennis Betting Advice - June 2022
25/1 for Tommy – and a youngster for this morning…
Tuesday 21st June 2022
Good morning. Maxime Cressy got our week-before-Wimbledon business off to a good start yesterday, beating the higher-ranked Reilly Opelka in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
From odds of 40/1 and 33/1 on Monday morning, Cressy is now 16/1 and 14/1 with the firms still going 1/2 odds for 1-2 places Each Way in the Outright Winner market for ATP Eastbourne.
As for Opelka, he remains winless on grass since 2019. If I was a cynic, I’d suggest the American might be turning up at these English grass-court events just to collect the pay-cheques... Let’s see how he performs at Wimbledon next week.
In the opposite side of the men’s Eastbourne draw, there’s another player that I’m tracking at a nice price, and he plays in the 1st round today:
TOMMY PAUL
While Reilly Opelka is struggling for any kind of form on the turf, Maxime Cressy is flying the flag for the United States on the English south coast this week. And compatriot Tommy Paul has the hint of some grass-court form about him, too…
The 25-year-old world no.35 put in a decent showing at the prestigious Queen’s Club event last week, despite not getting many column inches for his achievements. Tommy beat Denis Shapovalov and Stan Wawrinka. Two high-quality opponents. There was no shame in then losing to Matteo Berrettini in the quarter finals, seeing as the Italian went on to win the title.
If Paul comes through his 1st round match in Eastbourne today, he’ll face another Italian in round two. The seed Jannik Sinner gets a Bye through the first round. Sinner is a Ones to Watch regular, but he’s yet to show any form of note on grass. Indeed, this is his first grass tournament of the season. It’s fair to say he might be a little rusty, especially after some recent injury niggles – and have more than one eye on Wimbledon coming up next week. On the career form on the pro tour, Sinner is won 3 lost 6 on grass.
Whereas Jannik Sinner is in with the favourites for the Eastbourne title this week, at 13/2 (7.5) in general. Tommy Paul at a solid 25/1 across the board looks the outsider value to me.
RAKHIMOVA TO BEAT GARCIA
Elsewhere, in Germany, I like the underdog odds for 20-year-old Kamilla Rakhimova to beat the always unpredictable Caroline Garcia in the second round at WTA Bad Homburg today.
Rakhimova had a very good straight-sets victory over Liudmila Samsonova in round one, and the youngster can spring a surprise against the Frenchwoman here.
This match is due second on court, so should start around 11.30am or later. Odds in the region of 2/1 (3.0) appeal for the upset.
