French Open - Day 6: Clara's one to watch at 50/1...
Friday 2nd June 2023
Good morning and welcome to Day 6 of your French Open 2023 Daily Service. Play starts at 10am…
Every day of the tournament, I’ll be hitting your inbox with my analysis, picks & advice for the second Grand Slam of the season…
Another bagel for Iga…
It took us a few days to get going, but we had a good winning day yesterday - putting us ahead for our match bets so far. Thanks to Bernarda Pera landing the 2-1 Set Betting score against Donna Vekic, at odds of 4/1. And Iga Swiatek posting another 6-0 ‘bagel’ in the 2nd Set of her match v Claire Liu…
That 6-0 score paid 5/1 or 9/2. Swiatek has now racked up four bagel sets in her last six matches.
The world no.1 wasn’t playing her best yesterday, and the windy conditions were causing problems, too. But Iga ultimately finished strongly, fending off the four games points that her opponent held in the second set, to squeak home our brace of bets on that match, with a 6-4, 6-0 victory: Under 16.5 Total Games, and the 6-0 2nd Set Correct Score.
Clara’s one to watch at 50/1 and bigger…
Our Outright Winner book continues to hold 100/1+ picks in both the men’s and women’s events. Taylor Fritz won again yesterday and plays in the 3rd round tomorrow. Sloane Stephens plays in the 3rd round today.
Our current open, Each Way bets in the French Open Outright Winner markets:
Men’s - Taylor Fritz @ 100/1, 80/1
Women’s - Sloane Stephens @ 150/1, 100/1
I’m adding a Ones to Watch youngster to the pack today, with odds of 50/1, 66/1, 80/1, and even 100/1 available this morning…
There are a couple of intriguing, youthful line-ups emerging in the women’s draw…
Saturday’s match between 19-year-old Coco Gauff and 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva could be a cracker. And on today’s schedule, a match-up with less of a spotlight on it could provide us with a breakout young player at a big price, with Clara Tauson taking on fellow 20-year-old Elina Avanesyan…
World no.127 CLARA TAUSON is the name I want to get behind here. The 20-year-old Dane has been as high as no.33 in the rankings, but injury put the brakes on her progress last year. An ongoing back problem remains a concern. But if we go on current, spring 2023 clay-court form - then young Clara has momentum and is one to follow at outsider prices here in Paris:
Clara featured in our Ones to Report report at the start of 2022. And we noted the Danish youngster’s physicality as one of the key factors that could make her a contender on the world stage from a young age. She thumps the ball hard, plays attacking tennis, and has the no-fear attitude that you get from a dialled-in young competitor.
At the start of last season I compared Tauson to another of our breakthrough Ones to Watch names from recent years - current world no.1, Iga Swiatek:
The biggest compliment I can pay Tauson right now is this: she reminds me of 100/1 French Open 2020 winner Iga Swiatek – another teenager who burst onto the scene with a flurry of powerful shots, smart matchplay thinking, will-to-win tenacity, and the ability to rise to the occasion. In my eyes, Clara Tauson is destined for the big-time
Clara plays in the 3rd round this afternoon. Let’s get her in the book at 50/1+ Each Way, with BetVictor going a standout 100/1 as I write this morning…
