ATP Queen's: Ones to Watch at 20/1 and 50/1...
Monday 16th June 2025
The Wimbledon preparations ramp up this week with the annual ATP Tour event at the prestigious Queen’s Club in London…
Last week, the women returned to Queen’s for the first time in over 50 years. The tournament was won by 37-year-old Tatjana Maria. The mother of two came all the way through qualifying, winning a total of seven matches in a row - beating Grand Slam champions Madison Keys and Elena Rybakina along the way.
Maria was a 100/1 outsider there. In fact, if you roll up her match prices round by round last week, the German’s trophy price would come up at over 800/1 (!). Proof once again that anything can happen on a tennis court - and that the favourites don’t always win…
The men’s event at Queen’s starts today with the 1st round getting underway from 12 noon, live on the BBC. I’ll get straight to the picks, with the clock against us this morning before the first matches start…
Two Ones to Watch picks for us here - and two of the biggest servers on the tour right now…
Our grass-court report one-to-watch, Ben Shelton (view the 2025 grass season preview here), is certainly on my radar this week. But at 20/1, he looks to have a very tough section of the draw to navigate, including the world no.2, Queen’s 2023 winner, and reigning two-time Wimbledon champ, Carlos Alcaraz.
At a similar price, 25/1 - 20/1, but with a better-looking potential path to the deep end this week, fellow huge-serving youngster, JAKUB MENSIK. The Czech teenager featured prominently in our pre-season 2025 report. Since then, the 19-year-old has won the first ATP title of his career - and it was a big one, the Miami Open Masters. His giant serve makes him one to follow on the grass, too. This guy is very much on the up this year. Jakub is already no.17 in the world. He could go higher…
I’m no groundsman, but the fact that the women’s tournament took place on these same Queen’s Club courts last week should mean the grass is well worn in and plays hard and fast, what with the hot weather forecast, too. Conditions that can help the cause for one of the ace-serving men I mentioned in last week’s Notes from the Tour email (read it here), GIOVANNI MPETSHI PERRICARD…
What he may lack in movement, the 6’8” Frenchman can make up for with plenty of aces, and two-strike power tennis. Mpetshi Perricard won three matches here on his debut last June, coming through qualifying and beating Ben Shelton in the main draw. The 21-year-old world no.36 could be a surprise package this week at 50/1 and 40/1.
