Miami Open - take on Coco today...
Friday 23rd March 2018
In your Ones to Watch email today:
It was an okay night for us in Miami, with a profit from our two match picks…
Su-Wei Hsieh beat Sorana Cirstea 7-5, 6-2 to land an Even Money (2.00) payout.
While in our other match we had to settle for a ‘bet void’ (stakes returned) after Madison Keys retired injured in the 2nd set against our player, Victoria Azarenka. At the time, Azarenka was winning 7-6, 2-0 and looking well on course for the victory.
A medical timeout struck the other way round for one of our Outright Winner selections, 100/1 Carla Suarez Navarro. The Spaniard took an injury break early in the 2nd set, and as one viewer so nicely put it in an online comment, it looked like Carla “threw up in the trash can.” She clearly wasn’t her usual self, and went on to lose in straight sets to World No.125 Yafan Wang.
We can't legislate for injury or illness striking during a match. Our two other big-price Each Way picks get underway today – Elise Mertens (80/1 or 66/1) in the Women’s event, and Hyeon Chung (40/1 or 33/1) in the Men’s.
Take on Coco today…
One match catches the eye as a value Match Winner price for us today – and again we’re sticking with the Women’s draw…
Coco Vandeweghe v Danielle Rose Collins
WTA Miami – Miami Open
Match scheduled: 4.30pm+
Rankings: Vandeweghe #16, Collins #93
Head-to-Head: n/a
These two Americans have never played each other before and this should be an entertaining match…
Vandeweghe is the favourite on rankings and aged 26 and in the Top 20, is far more experienced at this level. However, Coco has been struggling for form and momentum for a while now – she’s only won one out of three matches this year, having been out of action with a viral illness last month.
Coco goes big on her shots but often the errors and mistakes that come with that risky strategy cause her to get frustrated and not quite deliver on her talent.
Collins on the other hand is a very calm and steady looking player – and certainly has momentum right now. She’s made a bit of a splash this month with her first ever senior level WTA Tour match wins coming on one of the biggest stages; winning three matches to make the Round of 16 at Indian Wells last week. That run included a victory over Madison Keys.
Collins arrived there on the back of some good results on the lower-tier women’s tour, and looked refreshingly composed and at home on the big stage. She’s started well here in Miami with a crushing 6-1, 6-1 win in her opening match against the tricky Irina-Camelia Begu.
The younger American is in the better form and can make life hard for Vandeweghe today. Collins is the value.
