Indian Wells – Bianca and Belinda in the quarters...

Wednesday 13th March 2019

In your Ones to Watch email today:

  • Quarter Finals...
  • 33/1 Bencic now 7/1...
  • 30/1 Andreescu now 9/1...

Here we go again...

The youngsters are at it again.

Last year’s WTA Indian Wells final was contested by Naomi Osaka and Daria Kasatkina. Both women were 20 years of age at the time. Osaka won as a 125/1 outsider. She’s now the World No.1. Kasatkina was 80/1 and an Each Way runner-up for us. Both players had appeared on our annual Ones to Watch list the previous season.

Twelve months on and the young players are breaking through in the Californian desert once more...

This week’s Indian Wells quarter final line-up includes Belinda Bencic, who just turned 22 on Sunday, and two teenagers with the 18-year-old Bianca Andreescu and 19-year-old Marketa Vondrousova.

All three have appeared in Ones to Watch in recent times. We’re on two of them this week, at exciting prices...

Two in the quarters...

On Monday we backed Belinda Bencic at 33/1 or 28/1. She’s won two more matches since then, including a fantastic and fully-deserved 2-0 victory over World No.1 Osaka last night. Bencic is now through to the quarter finals and down to 7/1 for the title. The Swiss star is on a great run, up to 11 matches without defeat now. She faces World No.5 Karolina Pliskova tomorrow.

In the opposite side of the draw, we have the teenager Bianca Andreescu. Another player in brilliant form, the Canadian has now won 14 of her last 15 matches on tour. We backed Andreescu at 30/1 or 28/1. She’s now down to 9/1 and also into the quarter finals. Bianca plays current World No.20 (and former No.1) Garbine Muguruza this evening. The match will be on BT Sport from 8pm.

A shout goes out to Vondrousova, too. The teenage Czech beat World No.2 Simona Halep yesterday. It was a day of upsets at Indian Wells. The women’s Top 2 are out. And men’s No.1 Novak Djokovic was also sent packing.

Once again we head in the quarter-final stage of a tournament with two nice prices on our side. The underdogs will have their day. It could be this week. Whatever happens, we’re in a decent position as it stands.

Enjoy the tennis...

Best wishes,
