Tennis Betting Advice - March 2023
Value hunting in Miami - at 167/1...
Monday 27th March 2023
It's been a charmed few days for the Miami Open tournament picks advised in our last email.
Hubert Hurkacz (40/1) saved five match points to pull off a remarkable comeback win in the last round.
Frances Tiafoe (50/1) also came from behind, recovering from a set and a break down.
And our 100/1 outsider Jiri Lehecka has been impressive with his attacking style of play, yet to drop a set through the first couple of rounds.
In the women's event, our 20/1 Name the Finalists pairing of 'Elena Rybakina v Aryna Sabalenka' is now the market favourite, after the withdrawal of tournament favourite, reigning champion & world no.1, Iga Swiatek. Over the weekend, Rybakina also saved a match point.
A couple of weeks ago at Indian Wells we landed two out of three from our latest tilt at three 2-1 Set Betting scores. I like three underdogs for that option again today - these three are all in form, and look a bit underrated to me...
As I said last time out when playing this big-price tactic: in the women's game, you're never far away from a three-set roller-coaster...
Qinwen Zheng v Anastasia Potapova - Potapova 2-1 Set Betting score @ 19/5 (4.8) William Hill
The Russian has come close to toppling Zheng in their previous two meetings. I like the Chinese player, too. But at today's prices, the underdog Potapova is my value pick.
Sorana Cirstea v Marketa Vondrousova - Cirstea 2-1 Set Betting score @ 6/1 (7.0) William Hill
Again, I'm a fan and frequent backer of the favourite, Vondrousova. But Cirstea is a lively underdog in this one. The head-to-head is 1-1. And the Romanian has already knocked out two highly-talented opponents this week, Carolina Garcia and Karolina Muchova, building on a quarter-final run at Indian Wells last time out.
Petra Kvitova v Varvara Gracheva - Gracheva 2-1 Set Betting score @ 4/1 (5.0) William Hill
Kvitova has won more three-set and come-from-behind scraps than I can list here. But age is on the side of 22-year-old Gracheva. The young Russian is quietly putting together an impressive breakthrough season on the tour, up to a new career-high ranking (no.54) on the back of reaching a maiden WTA final in Austin last month. Since that final, Gracheva has stayed in the States - winning 10 out of 11 matches, including five in a row so far here in Miami, having come through two matches in the qualifying rounds, and then the the first three rounds of the main draw.
The way I see the value here, the best bets are for the named underdogs to win in three sets...
My advice: three singles on the 2-1 Set Betting scores for Potapova, Cirstea, and Gracheva. And then also splitting a stake four ways across a Trixie (three doubles and a treble) - with the treble worth 167/1 at William Hill.
