Pablo the pick for today…
I hope you’ve been enjoying the sun. After a busy week last week with five tournaments and your French Open report, I allowed myself a day out walking yesterday.
Fresh of mind and lightly baked from the sun, I’m easing into this week’s Madrid Masters tournament with our first match pick today. We’ll look at how the Outright Winner market & draws are shaping up over the next day or so.
The match of interest for us today is Pablo Carreno Busta v Borna Coric in the men’s ATP Madrid event.
Carreno Busta is one of three men on our French Open 2018 Ones to Watch list, published yesterday, and he looks a good price to show his clay credentials again this afternoon…
The Spaniard is World No.11 and the 9th seed here, but the bookies make him the match underdog against the unseeded World No.35 Coric.
Coric has been hotly tipped for big things since he was a teenager on the Junior circuit, but hasn’t quite hit the bigtime yet. Aged 21, he looks to be stepping up his game this season, but he’s still not got the consistency that a player like the 26-year-old Carreno Busta brings.
Coric won their only previous meeting, earlier this year, but that was on hard court (a better surface for the Croatian). It took Coric a final set tiebreak to win that one, so it was close. And since then Carreno Busta has moved into some good form.
The Spaniard has a superior clay court record to Coric, and arrives here with back-to-back semi final runs under his belt.
We had a winner on Carreno Busta at this price in Barcelona the other week, and he looks a little underrated again today.
