Rolling towards Roland Garros…
Friday 17th May 2019
In your Ones to Watch email today:
90/1 Diego in the quarter finals…
We went for three big ones in Rome this week. We’ve got one left standing, with 90/1 pick Diego Schwartzman through to the quarter finals at ATP Rome.
Diego is an 11/8 (2.38) underdog against the higher-ranked Kei Nishikori today.
Our man did great yesterday, winning two matches in a row in straight sets, 2-0. Schwartzman was one of a number of players that had to play twice on a busy Thursday, after Wednesday’s play was completely wiped out by rain.
Our 66/1 shot Borna Coric almost took advantage of Roger Federer’s two-match schedule – winning the first set 6-2, and having two match points in the final set tiebreak (7-6). You can’t get much closer to beating Roger.
In the WTA Rome event, our 50/1 selection Anett Kontaveit lost out to one of our Ones to Watch in 2019 players, Maria Sakkari. The up-and-coming Greek youngster then beat an injured World No.2 Petra Kvitova in the last match of the day, which ended at gone 11pm local time.
Sakkari faces Kristina Mladenovic today for a place in the quarter finals. Mladenovic is another player we’ve been following lately, rejuvenated under her new coach and now growing in confidence. The Frenchwoman has beaten both Belinda Bencic and Ashleigh Barty this week, priced up as the match underdog each time. We’ll keep an eye on those two moving forwards.
Rollover up to 7 in a row…
World No.1 Naomi Osaka extended her head-to-head record over Dominika Cibulkova to 4-0 (and 8-0 in sets won), with a solid 6-3, 6-3 victory yesterday.
That result takes out Rollover run up to 7 matches in a row, with our £10 starting stake now up to £72.93. One or two more wins and we’ll be reaching the ‘cash out’ target of £100.
We’ll be looking to have Rollover bet No.8 early next week. There are four tournaments taking place – two for the women, two for the men – and all on clay as we reach the penultimate week in the build-up to the French Open…
Talking of Paris, I’ll also be looking to add another one or two big-price Ones to Watch for Roland Garros. We’ve already highlighted Anett Kontaveit at 50/1 for the women’s French Open.
I’ll see you on Sunday night with our first picks for next week’s four tournaments.
Enjoy the tennis…
Best wishes,
Tom Wilson
