Big names getting involved…
There are new tennis events popping up all over the place. While the official ATP & WTA Tours – not to the mention the Grand Slams – are on hold until August at the earliest. The list of localised ‘exhibition’ tournaments continues to grow…
An encouraging development is that more and more of the bigger names and higher-ranked players are starting to get involved.
Novak Djokovic has put his name to the ‘Adria Tour.’ in the coming weeks. Dominic Thiem, Grigor Dimitrov and Alexander Zverev have all been announced as part of the bill.
Now that the rain has finally stopped and they are playing in Austria today, Thiem is the headline name in his home-country event, the Generali Austria Pro Series.
This week in the Czech Republic, where many coronavirus restrictions have started to be lifted, two-time Wimbledon champ Petra Kvitova is in action.
And there’s a strong looking field being talked about for a women’s tournament in Charleston, USA next month, with the likes of Australian Open holder Sofia Kenin in the ranks.
Vickery finding form…
For today’s action we’re back in Atlanta, USA for the latest round of women’s Exo-Tennis Series matches. And we’re back on the hunt for the underdog prices…
Sachia Vickery started slowly at the first instalment of this event earlier this month, but the 25-year-old American looks to have found her form now. Two 2-0 wins on day one on Tuesday mean Vickery has now won seven of her last eight matches at this venue.
Vickery takes on Taylor Townsend tonight, and after successfully opposing the left-handed favourite in a couple of matches last time out, that tactic gets the nod again today…
After Sachia beat Taylor by a comprehensive 6-2, 6-0 score last Tuesday, the head-to-head between these two Americans now stands at 4-3 to Vickery. That’s a close match-up, but both the form and odds are on the side of the right-handed player here, with Vickery a top price 6/5 (2.20). Take Evens (2.00) and above.
5/1 for an upset…
The other price I like today is Elizabeth Halbauer to continue her progress and push Townsend all the way once again…
Last week the 22-year-old Halbauer came from behind to defeat Townsend, 2-1. The underdog match win was around 3/1 (4.00) that day. This time, Halbauer is still the outsider, but down to 6/4 (2.50).
However, the price I like is for the 2-1 Set Betting score to the younger player. Five of Halbauer’s 10 matches in the Exo-Tennis Series have gone to a final set (Champions Tiebreak) decider so far, with Ellie winning three. That’s a noteworthy pattern.
What’s more, two of Taylor’s four defeats have gone the distance in that way. Odds of 5/1 (6.00) stand out for another upset that goes to a decider here.
