Your Wimbledon Report - and Paris next week...

Thursday 25th May 2023

Good morning. A few things to update you on today…

Paris next week - and the forecast is good…

The sun is shining, and I’m starting to get that annual Grand Slam tingle in my stomach…

I’m busy gearing up for the French Open. Roland Garros has treated us well before (Iga Swiatek being the massive highlight…). While it might be pushing it to expect another 100/1 teenager to blaze through the draw and lift the trophy - it’s certainly not impossible.

And there is, as ever, plenty of evidence for backing the outsiders in Paris over the next fortnight. More on that soon…

  • The French Open starts this Sunday, 28th May. I’ll be running a DAILY email service for you. With all my analysis, bets & advice for Roland Garros, across the men’s & women’s events. Lookout for your Day 1 email at 8am Sunday, containing our initial Each Way picks in the Outright Winner market. Play will start from 10am, UK time

Talking of the Grand Slams, and our summer of tennis...

Your Wimbledon Report…

A reminder that we already have a couple of men in the book for Wimbledon. You may well already be on these guys from when I first wrote them up in January, and March. A few things have changed since then, including Wimbledon lifting the ban on Russian players…

I’ve put together a shiny new report containing the updated info on those two early-bird picks for the Wimbledon 2023 men’s title. With odds of 80/1 and 40/1 available - if you didn’t get them in the book the first time round…

Quarter Final chances today…

As for this week’s betting, I’ve been impressed by the performance and progress of our two American college picks on the WTA Tour this week…

At WTA Rabat in Morocco, our 14/1 Each Way pick Peyton Stearns is through to the quarter finals. And has been playing great - confident, aggressive, and up for the fight. That’s what you tend to get from these US college players. They can come out like caged animals - in a good way. Danielle Collins was the same when she made the move from college tennis high achiever to professional tour newcomer. It’s great to see.

After beating 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez yesterday, Stearns’ next test is to take on 2017 US Open winner Sloane Stephens in the quarter finals today. That all-American clash could be fun. Stearns is the slight underdog for that match, but down to just 5/1 for the trophy.

And at WTA Strasbourg in France, another breakout American woman on the clay this spring. Our 20/1 Each Way Ones to Watch pick Emma Navarro is through to a maiden WTA Tour quarter final. The bookies now make Emma the 4/1 joint-favourite for the title. She takes on Russia’a Anna Blinkova this morning.

  • After 28/1 Daniil Medvedev won ATP Rome last week, and 35/1 Jan-Lennard Struff reached the ATP Madrid final before that - we’re hitting a positive run of form on the eve of the French Open…
