American value in Paris this morning...

Tuesday 1st November 2022

We got off to a good start at the ATP Paris Masters on Monday afternoon, with our 200/1 pick Lorenzo Musetti overcoming underdog odds to beat an uninspired Marin Cilic in straight sets. Our tournament outsider Musetti moves into the 2nd round, and his Outright Winner price has now been chopped to 66/1 & 50/1 in general. Triple figures are still available with Unibet this morning, at 150/1 Each Way. Catch up on Sunday night's Rolex Paris Masters picks in full here.

Play continues from 10am today, and I've got a value pick for us in one of the first matches out on court this morning...

Isner v Rublev

The going after day one appears to be that these Accor Arena courts are playing fast. That certainly seemed the case in the matches I watched on Monday. Those conditions will suit John Isner nicely...

The big-serving American has done well indoors and at this particular venue before, including a runner-up finish back in 2016, and a semi-final showing the year after.

Now age 37, ranked no.47 in the world, and playing his first event since fracturing his wrist at the US Open. It's easy to see why Isner is priced as the underdog against world no.9 Andrey Rublev this morning. However, that info doesn't tell the full story...

Isner has turned up here in Paris as something of an unknown quantity, but showed he means business, winning his 1st round match in straight sets yesterday, and winning 100% of his service games. That's a very useful pipe-opener for John, with Rublev having had a Bye to round two, as a seeded player.

Rublev has won titles indoors before. Indeed, six of the Russian's 12 career ATP singles titles have come on indoor hard courts. But none of those were achieved here in the French capital; the 25-year-old has played five matches at this Masters event - and lost four of them.

The final, potentially crucial piece in the jigsaw today is that Isner has won all three of their previous meetings, including two last season. Clearly, with that 3-0 head-to-head, there's something in the American's short-point, big-serve game that troubles Rublev. Odds around 5/2 (3.5) appeal for the upset.
