Get set for Shanghai...
Monday 2nd October 2023
It turns out we were on the wrong teenager last week…
Our 50/1 pick Linda Noskova only made it as far as the last 16 in Tokyo. With the 18-year-old Czech then pulling out of this week’s WTA Beijing event through illness…
While in Ningbo, China, 19-year-old Diana Shnaider reached her first WTA final – having gone off at odds of 33/1.
Russian teenager Shnaider was beaten to the trophy by Ons Jabeur, with the world no.7 and former US Open runner-up winning the first hard-court title of her career.
Back in Japan, our 10/1 shot Maria Sakkari got to the Tokyo semi finals. Beaten by Jessica Pegula, who was then soundly beaten in the final by Veronika Kudermetova – with the Russian having started the week at 20/1.
Those outsider odds have nothing on the big surprise result in Mexico last month…
At WTA 1000 Guadalajara, American Caroline Dolehide reached her first ever WTA final – having gone off as a 200/1 rank outsider. That was the biggest-price finalist of the year so far, men’s or women’s…
The ‘Masters 1000’ action continues this week. And you and I will of course be on the lookout for upsets and big-odds opportunities…
As well as WTA Beijing which is already underway. The men’s Masters 1000 Series returns to China for the first time since 2019, with ATP Shanghai kicking-off from Wednesday morning…
We’ll be focusing on China this week. Keep an eye on your emails.
Enjoy the tennis…
Best wishes,
