He's not 300/1 anymore...

Monday 9th October 2023

Good evening. Our two big-price Rolex Shanghai Masters picks have been going well over the last few days...

While star man Carlos Alcaraz is still standing as the short favourite. There have been plenty of underdog results in the early rounds. Including high-profile, high-ranking names like Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz, knocked out.

Our 300/1 Chinese pick Zhizhen Zhang is still in the hat. And the recent Asian Games gold-medal winner is playing the most inspired tennis of his life right now...

He'll need to be at his best again on Tuesday morning, going off once again as an outsider, this time against Hubert Hurkacz. Our man Zhang is riding an eight-match winning streak though, and the Shanghai crowd will be right behind him.

Zhizhen has won three matches to get this far; another on Tuesday and he'll be in the quarter finals of an ATP 1000 Masters event for the second time this year - having already become the first male Chinese player to do so.

One thing's for sure: Zhizhen Zhang is not 300/1 anymore...

The bookies now make him 50/1.

With some firms having also now trimmed the Each Way terms from 1/2 odds to 1/3 odds for reaching the final.

We're on at the best possible price then. And the same goes for our other Rolex Shanghai Masters selection, Ben Shelton.

Backed at 50/1 - 100/1 last week, the young American is now 25/1.

Ben had his right foot taped up in the last round, but showed his grit to come from a set down and win. Next up on Tuesday, a chance to take on a Top 10 opponent, Jannik Sinner. The Italian has got a lot of tennis in his legs lately, and as with Zhang against Hurkacz, I reckon our man Shelton has got a decent underdog chance here...

The day's play starts from 5.30am UK time. With the matches featuring our men due on court late morning or lunchtime.

You can watch the Rolex Shanghai Masters live on Amazon Prime Video.

I'll be back later in the week with more...

Enjoy the tennis…

Best wishes,
