Paris Masters: Ones to Watch at 40/1 and 80/1...
Sunday 27th October 2024
We're all about the Rolex Paris Masters this week...
Play starts on Monday morning, from 10am UK time.
You can follow the action live on Sky Sports Tennis. With matches here in Bercy frequently going long into the evening. Some entertaining tennis is sure to be in store.
I'm kicking off our week in Paris with two big-odds picks. These men have both had the best seasons of their careers to date - and the 2024 campaign is not over yet...
As I mentioned the other day, the Paris Masters indoor tournament has a history of producing shocks and surprises. End-of-season fatigue can play its part in that.
The players we're backing first up:
Arthur Fils, available at 40/1 in general.
And Tomas Machac at a standout 80/1 - with 70/1, 66/1, and plenty of 50/1 on offer elsewhere (see below).
Fils can fly the flag for the French fans here. The 20-year-old featured in my 2024 pre-season report as One to Watch. He's since won two more ATP titles, and has now cracked the world's Top 20.
Arthur arrives in Paris in good form, and looking confident in his game and abilities. He made a semi final indoors at Basel last week. And won ATP Tokyo a month ago. Both ATP 500 grade events. He'll be up for a crack at the last 1000 level tournament of the year, and in front of a home crowd.
Machac is one of the new pack of Czech men looking good on the tour, with the 2025 season on the horizon. See also Jiri Lehecha, and our 33/1 teenage quarter-finalist last week in Vienna, Jakub Mensik.
Tomas turned 24 years old this month, and this very talented player is on the up, if he can stay injury-free. He's made two semi finals and a quarter final since the end of September, and has also posted a debut ATP final appearance this year. The next step is to lift a first trophy...
Twelve months ago, Machac had just won two indoor hard-court Challenger events in France. Things can change fast when you find form, and Machac's draw has the potential to see him put a crafty underdog run together here in Paris on a much bigger stage...
One of the things I like about Machac is that he has the ability to raise his game against higher-ranked opponents - bringing his A-game when it counts. That's a great knack to have...
