Ones to Watch in Osaka at 50/1...

Tuesday 14th October 2025

We’ve got two men’s picks in the book this week. With 11/1 Joao Fonseca and 28/1 Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard recommended for ATP Brussels.

Mpetshi Perricard clattered down a whopping 39 aces in his 1st round win this afternoon. Teenager Fonseca plays in the headline match in Brussels this evening (live on Sky Sports Tennis).

Our next move this week is to take a pair of 50/1 prices in Japan…

WTA Osaka continues in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 3.30am UK time. The two women I like here both posted convincing 2-0 wins in the 1st round. Yet they can both be backed at the same chunky prices as they started the tournament at. That’s due to the fact that both ladies in question are outsiders to win in the next round…

SUZAN LAMENS takes on the huge home favourite, Naomi Osaka. The former world no.1 has been known to wilt in certain types of pressure situations before though, and while her return to the tour since becoming a mother has been impressive, the previous Major-winning heights have yet to be scaled again.

Strange things can happen at this late stage of the season. For instance: Lamens won this very tournament last year. The 26-year-old Dutchwoman is currently at a career-best no.57 in the world.

REBECCA SRAMKOVA plays a similarly attacking/ risky brand of big-shot, attacking tennis. When it pays off, she can look very good indeed. The 28-year-old world no.65 showed some form last week at the bigger event in Wuhan - beating the higher-ranked and very talented ball-striker, Anna Kalinskaya. And then taking world no.1 Aryna Sabalenka all the way to three sets.

As with Lamens, Sramkova won a maiden WTA title around this time last year, on this side of the globe (Hua Hin, Thailand). Rebecca is up against Ann Li in the next round. The head-to-head is 2-0 to the American world no.42, but their most recent contest was a close three-setter at the US Open just a few weeks ago, and the Slovakian is my idea of a value underdog here.
