You may remember last month that I mentioned teenager Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajaonah as ‘one that got away’ in Sao Paulo…
The 18-year-old Frenchwoman won a maiden WTA that week in Brazil, having gone off at 40/1…
This talented and exciting young left-hander can be backed at 40/1 again this week - and this time, I don’t want to miss it.
Rakotomanga Rajaonah sits at no.129 in the world, but she’s definitely on the up and one to watch.
Sarah is only in this week’s WTA 250 Guangzhou Open draw as a Lucky Loser, having originally lost in qualifying. But we’ve seen underdogs spring huge surprises from this position before, not least this season.
And the way this young lady plays when in her groove, in my eyes it wouldn't actually be a massive surprise if she navigated her way to another final over the next few days…
Since entering the main draw via the luck-loser route, Rakotomanga Rajaonah has already taken advantage by winning her 1st round match. Finishing strongly, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 - having gone off as the underdog.
The teenager is an outsider again in her last-16 match tomorrow morning (play is due to start in Guangzhou from 6am, UK time).
Considering Rakotomanga Rajaonah was the pre-match underdog every time and defied the odds five times out of five in Sao Paolo, I’m not ruling anything out.
This tournament field looks very open, with a trophy there for the taking for someone…
Add in the fact that rain delays have already squeezed the match schedules in China this week, with all of Wednesday’s Guangzhou action wiped off the court. The fresh legs of the 18-year-old could count here…
We’ll take a flyer on this up-and-coming youngster at 40/1 Each Way.
