Serve it up in Chengdu at 9/1…
Wednesday 18th September 2024
Good afternoon. The men are in China this week with two hard-court tournaments, both of which got underway this morning (UK time). We’re getting behind a big server at ATP Chengdu…
The young Frenchman, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard came through a three-set scrap in round one. And after a tough run of results after Wimbledon, that could be just the tonic that the 6’8” player needed…
The 21-year-old rained down an impressive 34 aces in today’s win. And after becoming only the seventh man in history to serve 50+ aces in a match earlier this summer, Giovanni looks able to take advantage of fast playing conditions in Chengdu this week…
On the edge of the top 50 in the rankings right now, having started the season just outside the world’s top 200. Mpetshi Perricard is having a breakthrough year on tour, including a first ATP title (winning in Lyon on clay as a 33/1 shot, back in May).
Before a ball was hit in China this week, the tall Frenchman was around 12/1 for the Chengdu title. After that 1st-round win earlier today, along with the early exit of one of the bigger names, 6th seed Lorenzo Sonego. Giovanni’s outright odds are now 7/1+, with 8/1 and 9/1 available (see below). Given the scale and level of playing field at this ATP 250 event, those prices are okay with me from here…
On the drift in Seoul…
On the women’s tour, our other Outright Winner, Each Way business this week is with Yue Yuan at WTA Seoul. You can catch up on Monday’s article here.
In what is a rare situation for our Ones to Watch picks, Yue Yuan’s price has today drifted. From 40/1 on Monday, to 66/1 today. Maybe the bookies really like Emma Raducanu’s chances of beating our player in the next round. But I don’t agree so firmly.
