US Open: The Czechs are at it again...

Tuesday 2nd September 2025

The US Open quarter finals start today - and we’ve got skin in the game…

In the women’s Outright Winner market, we have our Each Way pick Karolina Muchova, who went in the book for us this time last week at 80/1 - 50/1.

The 29-year-old world no.13 is through to the quarter finals here in New York for the third year in a row - and looking to reach a third straight semi final.

Muchova is now trading at 33/1 - 28/1 in general, with most bookies now betting at reduced Each Way terms of 1/3rd odds, or Win Only. We took place terms of 1/2 odds.

The Czech has been playing some great stuff, and looks confident and assured on court. My main concern at this stage is that Karolina has played four long three-set matches in a row. She had the trainer on court in Monday’s match. Nothing new there, but we will need her fitness to hold up.

  • Muchova faces Naomi Osaka in the quarter finals on Wednesday. Osaka started the tournament at 20/1, and the two-time former US Open champion is now priced at just 5/1 to win her first title since becoming a mother

The Czechs are at it again…

It’s not just Muchova through to the last eight in New York. Two other Czech players - both also listed in our pre-season Ones to Watch in 2025: Czech-list Report - Barbora Krejcikova and Marketa Vondrousova are also into the women’s quarter finals.

Three Czech women getting to the quarter finals has only happened once before at a Grand Slam in the Open era… at Wimbledon 2014, when Petra Kvitova went on to win it.

And in the men’s event, another Czech player featured in our pre-season report, Jiri Lehecka, is also through to the US Open quarter finals.

  • All of those Czech names - Muchova, Krejcikova, Vondrousova, and Lehecka - started the US Open 2025 at odds of 80/1, 100/1 and bigger

American dreams…

In our pre-tournament 100/1 Preview, we noted that an American had made the final in each of the last four women’s Grand Slams. Two of those ladies are in with a shout of doing it again this week…

Last year’s US Open runner-up Jessica Pegula and this summer’s Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova are both in the quarter finals.

  • Pegula plays Krejcikova today. Anisimova takes on the title favourite Iga Swiatek on Wednesday - a chance for the 24-year-old American to put things right after that humbling 6-0, 6-0 defeat to the Pole at Wimbledon

We’re on the world no.9 Anisimova as one part of our gigantic-odds Each Way double on the men’s & women’s events…

Nobody beats Taylor Fritz 11 times in a row?

The other half of that 528/1 double is Taylor Fritz for the men’s title. Last year’s beaten finalist has been knocking on the door at the Grand Slams in recent times. The 27-year-old world no.4 also made a semi-final run at Wimbledon in July.

Fritz is flying the flag for the USA in the men’s event this week - the last man standing from the States. Taylor’s next task is one of the toughest you can get in Major tennis: taking on Novak Djokovic…

The Serbian star leads the career head-to-head v Fritz by a commanding 10 wins to nil. But the 38-year-old Djokovic has been having frequent injury timeouts, and the bookies don’t make the American too much of an underdog here, with Taylor priced around 11/8 (2.38) in general to beat Novak tonight.

  • You’ll need to stay up late to watch Djokovic v Fritz live - the match is scheduled last on Arthur Ashe court, 1.30am+ UK time, in the Evening Session headline slot
