Borna Coric – Grand Slam potential at 150/1...

In your Ones to Watch EXTRA email today:
Coric coming good...
There have been some big prices on the tour recently...
Anett Kontaveit was a 100/1 runner-up in Wuhan last month. She was on our list of youngsters to watch at the start of the season.
Another is Borna Coric – one of our class of 2017. Coric was also a 50/1 winner on grass at Halle in June, beating Roger Federer in the final.
And the 21-year-old Croatian, who has the game to excel on all surfaces, is now starting to really push on...
Borna is currently on a great run on the hard courts in Shanghai. He’s into the semi finals, having been a 100/1 outsider at the start of the week. He’ll play Federer tomorrow for a place in his first Masters final.
This is Coric’s second Masters semi final of the season, having impressed at Indian Wells back in March – also on hard courts. Incidentally, Federer was the semi final opponent there, too.
The 6’2” Croatian, who turns 22 next month, has reached a career-high ranking of No.18 this season. After this week’s run in Shanghai, he looks set to climb again.
All this comes on the back of his tournament breakthrough last season, when Coric won a first ATP tour title, on clay in Marrakech.
He has pace, power, athleticism – and talent. And he’s getting stronger and more consistent with each new achievement...
One to Watch at 150/1...
Coric is yet to do anything of note in the Grand Slams. But that can be forgiven for an improving young player. Significantly his 4th Round run in the most recent Grand Slam at the US Open this summer was his best result yet at a Major. Improving physicality and experience should help him push on in the best-of-five-sets format from now on.
Borna looks one to keep on the radar at big prices for all of next year’s Grand Slams – starting with January’s Australian Open. (At the time of writing, Coric is yet to feature in the Outright Winner prices for the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open 2019.)
Should Coric go on to reach the final or lift the trophy in China this week, and/ or continue to impress between now and January, then his current Australian Open price is sure to have tumbled by the time the draw is made in Melbourne.
888 Sport and Unibet have (finally) started offering the standard Each Way terms for Outright tennis bets – 1/2 odds for 1-2 places. And they have Coric for the Australian Open 2019 at a standout 150/1.
You can get 66/1 Each Way with Skybet, Paddy Power, Boylesports, NetBet and 10Bet. But that triple-figure price with 888 Sport and Unibet is the real eye-catcher.
I’ll be back soon with more big prices and improving players for you.
Enjoy the tennis...
Best wishes,
Tom Wilson
