Youngsters making waves...

After 50/1 Kevin Anderson made the Wimbledon final, we didn’t land a big one from our US Open ‘Ones to Watch’ report this time.

Naomi Osaka was the big price that took the prize in New York. The 20-year-old was 50/1 at the start of the tournament. Two weeks later and she was beating Serena Williams in the final to win her first Grand Slam title, in her first appearance in a Grand Slam final.

Osaka is now two out of two for finals, having won Indian Wells as a 125/1 outsider in March.

The young Japanese star featured on our Ones to Watch in 2017 list. That list of youngsters has proved quite fruitful. Jelena Ostapenko won the French Open last year at 100/1, and now Naomi Osaka has won the US Open at 50/1. Both of those two were 20 years old when they lifted their first big trophy, having been teenagers when we first flagged them up.

Today I’m marking out another young woman for a bright future on the big stage...

One to Watch – Amanda Anisimova...

This year an American teenager has announced herself on the women’s tour...

Having won a couple of lower-tier titles in 2017, in March of this year a 16-year-old by the name of Amanda Anisimova got her breakthrough match win, with a straight sets victory over two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova at Indian Wells.

Fast-forward to this week and having just turned 17 year of age, Anisimova has reached her first WTA semi final. She’s won three matches in Qualifying and three more in the main draw. Having started the week at 10/1, Anisimova goes into the weekend as the 7/2 (4.50) favourite to go on and win the WTA Hiroshima title.

A Junior US Open champ, hard courts are Amanda’s surface of choice. With that in mind, she’s flickering on the radar as a potential 2019 Grand Slam threat...

150/1 worth getting in the book...

In the early ante post markets, Anisimova is available at around 150/1 Outright for January’s Australian Open and the same price for next summer’s US Open. At those big prices she’s one to get on side while the odds are still well in your favour.

As we’ve seen with the likes of 100/1 Ostapenko, 50/1 Osaka and 40/1 Sloane Stephens in the last year or so alone, players are breaking through at huge odds...

After Osaka’s win in New York, the last eight Women’s Grand Slam titles have all been won by different players. Serena Williams isn’t getting under younger. Next season could see yet more new names on the biggest trophies.

Born in the States to Russian parents, Animisova has a determined look about her, and the signs are that she has the physical hitting power to stay with the more established names.

It goes without saying that odds of 150/1 will serve you very well should 2019 prove to be Anisimova’s year for a breakthrough run in a Grand Slam.

I’ll be back in the weeks to come with more players to follow at big prices.

Enjoy the tennis...

Best wishes,
