WTA Bogota – Zidansek in the quarter finals…
Friday 12th April 2019
In your Ones to Watch email today:
It’s been a bad week for favourites. Before the quarter finals have even started, the pre-tournament market leaders have been sent packing from all four of this week’s events.
In WTA Lugano, 7/4 (2.75) Swiss headliner Belinda Bencic fell at the first hurdle.
And in Bogota, 9/2 (5.50) tournament favourite Jelena Ostapenko crashed out early, too – losing in her opening match, to an opponent ranked outsider the world’s Top 200.
It’s been a similar story in the men’s events…
In Houston, two-time reigning champion Steve Johnson is out, as is Reilly Opelka. Those two began the week as joint favourites at 7/1 (8.00) each.
And at ATP Marrakech, World No.3 Alexander Zverev tumbled out on his 2019 clay debut. As we noted on Sunday, Zverev looked a bad value proposition at just 2/1 (3.00).
We go for bigger prices with our Ones to Watch picks. We reach Friday this week with one of our four Outright Winner selections still going…
14/1 Zidansek now 9/2…
Tamara Zidansek is into the quarter finals at WTA Bogota.
We deliberately targeted a weak field here. At No.67 in the world, Zidansek is now the highest-ranked player left in the draw.
Tamara has a tough looking match today, against 2017 & 2018 Bogota runner-up Lara Arruabarrena. However, our player has been serving well and she goes into today’s quarter final (5pm, BT Sport) as the bookies’ 4/7 (1.57) match favourite.
In the Outright market, Zidansek is now down to 9/2 (5.50) at best. We’re on top prices of 14/1 (15.00) and 12/1 (13.00) Each Way, so we have a good price on our side.
Monte Carlo is the first clay-court ATP Masters 1000 event of the year. It’s a big one, in a glamourous and picturesque setting. It’s one of the highlights of the spring schedule – and tells us the summer tennis months are well on their way…
I’ll be back on Sunday night with a first look at the Monte Carlo betting.
Enjoy the tennis…
Best wishes,
Tom Wilson
