Tennis Betting Advice - April 2021
Cheering for the youngsters today...
Friday 16th April 2021
In your Ones to Watch email today:
We’re in proper Ones to Watch territory this week, with some exciting young players on our side – and one at a massive price…
At WTA Charleston, we have two teenagers through to the quarter finals.
The 15-year-old (yes, fifteen), Linda Fruhvirtova was an impressive 6-4, 6-2 victor last night over another of our teenage selections, Emma Navarro. From 33/1, the Czech youngster is now 16/1 to go all the way. What a story that would be.
At 12/1, we have Clara Tauson in the quarter finals, too – and now trading at just 7/2 (4.5) to lift a second title of the season. The 18-year-old is priced as the favourite to win her match today. Fruhvirtova is the underdog in hers. If both women win, then they’ll face each other in the semi finals. That would be the best-case outcome from today’s play in Charleston.
I actually think Fruhvirtova is being underrated in the Match Winner betting, and I’m backing her to win that quarter final against Astra Sharma today. The 25-year-old Australian was involved in a long and occasionally scrappy encounter with Madison Brengle yesterday. She’s only 15, but I rate Fruhvirtova’s top level as higher than Sharma’s. The Australian also has one leg heavily strapped, so I wonder if that will have any impact on proceedings.
At ATP Monte Carlo, we have a 100/1 pick in the quarter finals. That’s as much as you can rightfully ask or hope from a player at long-shot odds. But Casper Ruud might not be done yet. Yesterday, he saved two match points and came from 2-5 down in the final set. Today he takes on the defending (2019) Monte Carlo champion, Fabio Fognini…
Fognini is capable of sensational tennis. But he’s also unpredictable. Ruud leads the head-to-head, 2-0. The bookies are taking heed of those two 2020 results, with the 22-year-old Norwegian installed as an 8/11 (1.73) favourite to beat the 33-year-old Fognini today.
