WTA Stuttgart - bagel time today, and a 50/1 shot...

Wednesday 20th April 2022

The Tours are back in Europe, and that means some early start times. With orders of play running from 9am and 10am at three of this week's four clay-court tournaments, that can make it a little tricky for us to swoop on the small late night/ early morning window when the bookies have their Outright Winner markets available.

WTA Stuttgart continues from 11.30am today though (Wednesday), and that event is also the one where I'm most interested in a bet or two...

I'll be brief, putting this email together for you late at night, with the best intentions that you can see it and act on it in the morning, before play begins.

In terms of two players to follow at attractive Each Way prices, the bottom half of the Stuttgart draw looks the place to go, avoiding the short-price favourite and world no.1, Iga Swiatek.

BIANCA ANDREESCU is on her latest comeback. The injury-plagued Canadian won her 1st round match in straight sets, and that's a good sign that she's ready to go further this week. When Bianca's body lets her play, she's quite simply one of the best players in the game. A fantastic match player, and an extraordinary top-level competitor. Odds of 28/1 with Bet365 look well worth a roll.

EKATERINA ALEXANDROVA has done well for us as a Ones to Watch pick on indoor hard courts before. She can also hit the ball well on clay, and has shown signs of good form recently. After winning her 1st round match 2-0, Alexandrova is currently sitting on a 5-1 match win-loss tally on clay in 2022. Again, Bet365 are the best up as I write tonight, and 50/1 and 40/1 are nice outsider prices.

Bagel time today...

On the match betting front, Iga Swiatek is so good on clay that we can look to make money by backing the Pole to win sets 6-0.

Backing the 'bagel' scoreline was a winning tactic for us a couple of times last summer, and Wednesday's 2nd-round encounter between the world no.1 and world no.343 Eva Lys looks a genuine mismatch.

Swiatek can be backed at 4/1 to win the 1st Set by the 6-0 Correct Score, and Paddy Power & Betfair Sportsbook have those odds for the 2nd Set, too. I say take those bets on the Pole wherever you can find them today (the match is scheduled for 1pm+).

Swiatek has won 19 matches in a row. Last week, on Billie Jean Cup duty, Iga won 6-1, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-0. Both of those fully comprehensive scorelines came against higher-ranked players than today's opponent Lys.
