This is the first clay-court ATP Masters 1000 event of the year. A couple of Ones to Watch Next Gen alumni will be happy to be back on the clay, and in familiar surroundings...
Put simply, I think the prices for Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas don't do their chances the proper justice, considering their abilities, and past performances on this surface...
The early Outright Winner prices are up, and both men can be backed at 25/1+...
Rublev won this tournament last year - the biggest title of his career. He's made the final here, two times out of three. And two of his last three trophy wins overall have come on clay. As the 6th Seed here, Rublev has a Bye through to the 2nd Round.
Tsitsipas won Monte Carlo in both 2022 and 2021. Indeed, he beat Rublev in the 2021 final. Three of Stef's last five titles have come on clay. He has a 4-0 head-to-head record against 1st Round opponent, Laslo Djere.
Any hiccups or slip-ups for the favourites at the top of the betting this week, and these two won't be 25/1+ anymore. I like the prices - enough to override 2024 (hard court) form to date. Clay is a different beast...
