Ones to Watch in Stuttgart at 25/1 and 50/1...
Monday 13th April 2026
We’re into clay-court territory now, with the run-up to Roland Garros underway…
Last week we can consolidate ourselves in knowing that we were on teenager Joao Fonseca when he reached his first ever ATP Masters 1000 quarter final. That’s as far as the 19-year-old Brazilian got in Monte-Carlo – but what a talent he is. Let’s keep him very much in mind moving forward.
Onto the women’s tour today, and the decent-sized WTA 500 event in Stuttgart is the main event in my eyes. The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix promises a Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet to the champion – and some potentially rewarding odds for you and I…
German veteran Laura Siegemund has been a pick here for us in the past, but the former (2017) Stuttgart winner is now 38 years of age – and has gone out in the 1st round here in each of the last two years. It was only last summer that she made the Wimbledon quarter finals at triple-figure odds, though, so don’t rule Siegemund out on age alone. The draw looks tough for the German though, and the 125/1 – 100/1 price-tag doesn’t tempt me in on this occasion.
I do, however, like the 50/1 for reigning Stuttgart champ JELENA OSTAPENKO…
The talented-yet-temperamental Latvian is showing flashes of form in 2026. And age 28, the current world no.22 and former (2017) French Open winner is still very much a threat on clay with her natural shot-making skills – and raw power.
The price is the ticket here. Ostapenko, as I’ve said many times over the years, can turn up ‘on fire’ – or in woefully wild form. If it’s the former this week, 50/1 will look massive.
What’s more, in this top half of the Stuttgart draw, Ostapenko has the chance to once again showcase one of the most significantly one-sided head-to-heads on the WTA circuit in recent times: she holds a 6-0 career record against world no.4 Iga Swiatek, including a headline-making victory over the former no.1 here at this very venue last season.
In the bottom half of the draw, I’m more than happy to go with youth, and back regular Ones to Watch youngster, LINDA NOSKOVA as a 25/1 shot…
The 21-year-old Czech is dangerous to any opponent, and while Linda is still looking to iron out some inconsistencies in her game and stay on top of any recurring injury niggles, the world no.14 remains an intriguing bet at big events when we can get appealing prices for her.
Like our other pick Ostapenko, Noskova hits a heavy ball – and when she finds her spots, her game can be devastatingly effective. Linda has the potential to do great things in this sport, and she appears to have a calmer head on her shoulders than the more swashbuckling Ostapenko.
