More seeds tumble in New York…
It’s 3rd round day at the Western & Southern Open in New York, and plenty of big names have already been knocked out…
Along with top two seeds Karolina Pliskova and Sofia Kenin, 6th seed Petra Kvitova and 7th seed & reigning champion Madison Keys both fell in their opening matches.
Our 100/1 shots…
Keys was well beaten by one of our 100/1 outsiders this week, Ons Jabeur. The Tunisian played very smart tennis in a strong, 6-4, 6-1 win last night. In the Outright Winner betting, Jabeur is now 20/1 at best.
Other big names in the women’s draw also had to work very hard to get through the 2nd round…
Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka and Aryna Sabalenka were all involved in matches that went the distance to a final set. As were 14th seed Elise Mertens and 16th seed Dayana Yastremska.
Our other 100/1 shot left standing, Jessica Pegula, is through to the 3rd round after a second successive 2-0 underdog victory over a fellow American.
Pegula saw off Amanda Anisimova on Monday. Across qualifying and the first two rounds in the main draw, Jessica has now won four matches in a row on these courts in the last few days. This evening, she faces Sabalenka as the match outsider once again. The Belarusian is likely to give our player chances, though.
From 100/1 yesterday afternoon, our Each Way pick Pegula is now down to 50/1 and 40/1.
And in the men’s…
In the ATP event, our One to Watch this week is Stefanos Tsitsipas (8/1). His half of the New York draw opened up a bit yesterday, with 2nd seed Dominic Thiem and 5th seed Alexander Zverev both knocked out.
Tsitsipas is a 3/10 (1.3) match favourite to beat the big-serving American veteran, John Isner, this evening.
Today’s play starts from 4pm, UK time. All the matches in both the men’s & women’s events are live on Amazon Prime Video.
