Two semi finals for us today…

Saturday 8th August 2020

In your Ones to Watch email today:

  • WTA Palermo…
  • Semi Finals today…
  • Two tournaments next week…

Good morning. I’m writing to you on a Saturday, so that must mean we’re doing alright with our tournament selections this week.

It’s semi finals day at WTA Palermo…

After Friday’s quarter final results, we have both our players through to the final four:

  • Petra Martic v Anett Kontaveit
  • Fiona Ferro v Camila Giorgi

At the third time I’ve asking in 2020, Kontaveit made it through a quarter final to reach a semi. In the Match Winner market, the Estonian is a 13/10 (2.3) underdog to beat top seed Martic today. The Croatian is 8/13 (1.62).

Ferro has been the form woman in Palermo this week – the only player yet to drop a set in the competition. The 23-year-old has only been on court for a total of four hours and 24 minutes, less than anyone else left in the draw.

In comparison to Ferro, today’s semi final opponent Giorgi had a near three-hour match last night. The Italian saved two match points, coming from a set down to beat Dayana Yastremska, in a match that didn’t end until 1.30am local time. The bookies make Ferro a 4/6 (1.67) favourite to book a place in the final. The home player is a 6/5 (2.2) shot.

In the Outright Winner market, we have:

  • Kontaveit 12/1 (13.0) Each Way – now 3/1 (4.0)
  • Ferro 25/1 (26.0) Each Way – now 23/10 (3.3)

Those are two good positions to be in going into the semi finals. If you wish to protect your original bets, then stake accordingly by backing Martic & Giorgi today.

Martic and Kontaveit are the only two seeded players left in the tournament. Ferro and Giorgi are the two outsiders that have come through the Palermo draw this week (Giorgi was 33/1 on day one).

The dream result today of course would be to get both our players through to Sunday’s final. According to the bookies’ prices, our biggest-price pick Ferro has the best chance of securing us an Each Way payout or better.

Play starts from 4pm UK time, live on Amazon Prime Video.

I’ll be back tomorrow night, with our first look at the draws & prices for next week’s two women’s tournaments, WTA Prague and WTA Lexington.

Enjoy the tennis…

Best wishes,
