Tuesday Match Winners list at 16/1...
Tuesday 9th August 2022
Good morning. A rain-delayed opening day in Montreal means they’re packing in the men’s matches over there today. Along with the conclusion of the 1st round in Toronto, we have plenty of matches to entertain us…
Play starts from 4pm (UK time), so I’ll get straight to the point.
My Tuesday Match Winners list contains the seven players that I like at the prices. These are all favourites to win their respective matches, but not prohibitively so – with odds of around the 1/2 (1.5) mark for each.
Those prices roll up pretty nicely, with 16/1 available for the full-house accumulator. As ever, you may wish to mix & match these picks in any number of multiple bets.
Along with the seven-fold acca, I have a standalone single at 11/10 or Even Money, too.
Tuesday Match Winners list…
Men – ATP Montreal:
Cameron Norrie to beat Brandon Nakashima – we’re on Cam for the trophy this week, and he leads the head-to-head 2-1 v today’s promising young American opponent. I’m with Norrie here.
Frances Tiafoe to beat Benjamin Bonzi – backing the American in this one. Tiafoe delivers his best performances on hard courts in events like this. He leads the head-to-head 2-0.
Maxime Cressy to beat Aslan Karatsev – Cressy is having the best season of his career, while Karatsev continues to be troubled. This could go close, but Cressy’s sharp serve & volley game can prevail here.
Marin Cilic to beat Borna Coric – it’s good to see Coric back on tour this summer after so many injury layoffs. Cilic has the serve and experience to take this all-Croatian encounter though. Especially with a 6-0 head-to-head in his favour (7-0 if you count a win via retirement).
Matteo Berrettini to beat Pablo Carreno-Busta – this one could also go close on the scoreboard, but our man Berrettini is the player I trust to get the job done. He won their only previous meeting, which came in straight sets on hard courts at the Australian Open this year.
Women – WTA Toronto:
Veronika Kudermetova to beat Ajla Tomljanovic – Kudermetova is up to a career-best ranking of no.18 in the world on the back of a good season that has seen her reach three finals and another two semi finals. The head-to-head is 2-0 to Veronika, with both wins coming on hard courts.
Qinwen Zheng to beat Rebecca Marino – the Canadian crowd will be with 31-year-old Marino here, but as we’ve noted in recent weeks, Chinese 19-year-old Zheng is one to watch this season and beyond. Going with youth here.
And my standalone single:
Camila Giorgi to beat Emma Raducanu @ 11/10
I like Raducanu, but almost every match seems to be a struggle right now, and frequent blisters don’t help at all. Giorgi may be nervy as the defending National Bank Open champ (WTA Montreal 2021), but the Italian has an aggressive game that can push Raducanu to places on the court that she doesn’t want to be. Priced as the slight underdog today, Giorgi is the value for me.
