Going in again at 100/1...

Wednesday 16th August 2023

Good morning. I don’t often do this. But we’re going in again with our tournament picks today. After two of our players fell at the first hurdle in Cincinnati…

100/1 Felix Auger-Alliasime and 66/1 Jen Brady were the culprits. The former disappointed; the latter was a little unlucky to come out on the wrong end of a very close match, 7-6, 7–5. It was a late night watching for me - and they feel later when your player loses. But this is nothing new…

Ones to Watch is all about the BIG prices. And as such, it really is the case that ‘it only takes one’ to give us a great run and a positive return…

To go alongside our existing pair of 20-year-old Cincinnati picks, 100/1+ Ben Shelton and 80/1 or 66/1 Qinwen Zheng. Two other names who have caught my eye both on court, and on the prices.

Shelton takes on Stefanos Tsitsipas as a 3/1 match underdog today. Qinwen Zheng is a heavy favourite to beat the 43-year-old Venus Williams. The 20-year-old Chinese won 26 out of 27 points on her 1st serve yesterday. That’s a fantastic 96% stat, and quite remarkable in men’s or women’s tennis.

SORANA CIRSTEA won 91% of her 1st serve points on Tuesday. And having also backed the Romanian at triple-figure prices in Montreal last week, let’s keep her on side. As we’ve said before, when Sorana hits a form streak, she’s a very dangerous outsider on North American hard courts. And one who’s well capable of taking out the sometimes flakey Maria Sakkari today.

  • Note: the best price package for Cirstea is to bet Win Only at 100/1+, along with 100/1 To Reach the Final with Bet365. See below for bookies

ALEX DE MINAUR is playing some of the tennis of his life. After reaching a first ATP 1000 final last week in Toronto, usually we’d skip a player the very next week due to the gruelling schedule. But Alex is one of the fittest men on the tour, and I reckon he’s got the engine for this. He was 50/1 and 40/1 last week, and available at those prices again. The Aussie won his 1st round match yesterday, and takes on the often-injured Gael Monfils today.

Play starts from 4pm…
