Ones to Watch for ATP Winston-Salem this week:
Arthur Fils @ 16/1. The French teenager is having his breakout year on the senior tour. The 19-year-old started the season with a couple of finals on indoor hard courts on the lower-tier ATP Challenger circuit. Before graduating to the main events, including semi finals in Montpellier, Marseille, and Hamburg – and a maiden ATP title in Lyon. Three of those four events were 250-grade, as is this week’s competition in the States…
We were on Arthur at 30/1 & 28/1 when he made the semis in Marseille; just one match win away from landing us an Each Way payout that time. Fils is now up to a career-high ranking of no.49 in the world. Let’s take him at 16/1 this week to continue his impressive progress.
Situated as it is, just before the US Open. Winston-Salem has produced a few big-odds finalists and surprises in recent years. The last two events have seen winners at 40/1 and 25/1, and runners-up at 150/1 and 50/1. Let’s get behind a promising young underdog this week…
Alex Michelson @ 40/1. The 18-year-old American won his 1st round match on Sunday, chalking up some good stats on serve, with over 80% of 1st-serve points won. The 6’4” teenager also showcased his weapons on grass at ATP 250 Newport in July, reaching his debut ATP final. He was a 40/1 shot that week, and we can obtain that price again here in the States today.
At no.133, Michelson is also at a new career-best ranking right now – and looks primed to go higher before the summer is out. Playing pretty much exclusively here in the USA, at all levels, Alex has gone 22-8 on hard courts in 2023. A noteworthy match win-loss rate of 73.33%...
