Tennis Betting Advice - August 2025

Ones to Watch this week - at 50/1 and 150/1...

Monday 18th August 2025

It’s the US Open next week. With such a huge event looming on the calendar, this week’s three tournaments on the ATP & WTA Tours need to be looked at in the shadow of the Big Apple…

Big-name players are likely to be not going full-pelt, in order to stay fit for Flushing Meadows. Others haven’t entered at all, choosing instead to train/ travel/ get ready for the final Grand Slam of the year.

Such goings-on open the door for unheralded players to get in on the silverware. With big prices and first-time finalists/ title-winners a common theme in the week directly before a Major…

For example, just before the US Open last season, McCartney Kessler was a 50/1 winner at WTA Cleveland, in what was her maiden appearance in a full-level WTA final.

Ahead of Wimbledon this summer, the tours churned out not one but two 50/1 finalists.

And overall in 2025 to date, the week prior to each of the three Grand Slams (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon) has produced a debut finalist every time…

As is the Ones to Watch way, we’re going to back two big-odds outsiders this week. One up-and-coming youngster in the States at 40/1+, and a 100/1+ home hope in Mexico…

NISHESH BASAVAREDDY is 20 years old and ranked no.106 in the world. The American won two titles on the lower-level ATP Challenger Tour last season - both on outdoor hard courts. And the court surface and playing conditions at ATP Winston-Salem may suit the energetic youngster this week; indeed, he won through the qualifying rounds over the weekend with a pair of strong straight-sets victories: 6-2, 6-0, and 6-4, 6-3.

  • Worth knowing… Last season, Lorenzo Sonego won ATP Winston-Salem at 40/1. This time, the Italian goes off at just 12/1

The women are in Cleveland and Monterrey this week. We’re interested in the Mexican event today…

RENATA ZARAZUA catches my eye at triple-figure odds. The 27-year-old world no.70 is searching for a maiden WTA title. She’s shown she can win on the lower-tier circuit, including three titles last season, two of which were achieved on outdoor hard courts. The next step is to do it on a bigger stage…

After failing to get any further than the 1st round in seven attempts at WTA Monterrey, the Mexican player finally got off the mark here last season, recording her first victory and reaching the round of 16.

Zarazua has shown glimpses of progress/ ability this summer, including a win over Katie Boulter on hard courts. And most recently, pushing former Wimbledon champion and Top 10 star Elena Rybakina all the way to a final set in Cincinnati last week. Rybakina went on to reach the semi finals at that big WTA 1000 event.

The big prices for the home player are worth taking as an outsider bet here.

  • Worth knowing… Leylah Fernandez has won this trophy twice before (2021, 2022). The 2021 triumph was her maiden WTA title win. She went on to reach the US Open final that summer as a 500/1 shot. Fernandez is in with the favourites for WTA Monterrey this week, priced at 6/1 at best
