Wimbledon – Bets of the Day

Good morning and welcome to Day 6 of your Wimbledon 2018 coverage…

Play starts at 11.30am.

A big day…

It’s a big day for sport in Great Britain. As well as Wimbledon in London and the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend, the England football team are playing in the quarter finals of the World Cup.

In the tennis, Kyle Edmund is the last Brit standing and takes on former champ and former World No.1, Novak Djokovic, on Centre Court. Edmund has beat Djokovic before but that wasn’t on grass, and the Serb has stepped up his comeback since that last meeting on clay in May.

Sweden v England kicks off at 3pm… at around the same time, our 40/1 outsider pick for the Wimbledon Women’s title, Naomi Osaka, will be taking to Centre Court to take on another former World No.1, Angelique Kerber. That’s a huge match as I believe whoever comes through that will have an excellent chance to go a long way in week two in this open-looking segment of the draw.

It’s fair to say week one has been a tough one for us. But on a positive note we have 20/1 Alexander Zverev and 18/1 Juan Martin Del Potro playing in the Men’s 3rd Round today. Both are big favourites to win their respective matches and make it into week two, and both looked very good last time out.

Total Sets picks for today…

There are a total of 16 matches on the 3rd Round schedule today. In the Women’s, three stand out for me as having good potential to go the distance to a final set…

All three of these are closely matched on the Match Winner betting, with all the players involved not too far apart from each other in the rankings. It’s going to be a hot day and these women could be on court battling it out for a while…

Ashleigh Barty v Daria Kasatkina – TOTAL SETS – 3 SETS

Barty is the favourite to win this with a better career grass record, however Kasatkina is getting better all the time with her first main draw wins on the surface coming this year. They are ranked No.17 and No.14 respectively and this should be an entertaining match between two young players with excellent racket skills. Four of Kasatkina’s last 7 matches have gone the distance to 3 Sets.

Daria Gavrilova v Aliaksandra Sasnovich – TOTAL SETS – 3 SETS

The only previous meeting between these two came last year with Gavrilova winning 2-1. The Australian is the kind of player to blow hot & cold and that’s a trait often connected to players involved in three-set matches. Sasnovich had one of the wins of the tournament when knocking out the favourite and two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova in the 1st Round. Reaching the 3rd Round makes this Gavrilova’s best SW19 showing to date and this could turn into a tough battle between two players in confident form.

Carla Suarez Navarro v Belinda Bencic – TOTAL SETS – 3 SETS

Confidence might be something that’s harder to come by in this one. I’ve seen both players look shaky and put in flakey performances in the past. Suarez Navarro has experience on her side, Bencic has youth and the grass court pedigree. Bencic has had several injury problems in the last couple of years, having at one point been strongly fancied as the Next Big Thing in Women’s tennis. It could still happen for the Swiss, but she will likely have a fight on her hands today with the unassuming and hard-working Suarez Navarro who will keep going in every point. Bencic’s last match went to a third set and took almost two and a half hours to complete.

13/1 to go the distance…

Each of those matches can be backed to have 3 Sets at around 11/8 (2.38), with a Treble paying around 12/1 (13.00) and a best price 13/1 (14.00) with Skybet and Marathonbet.

I’m splitting a stake four ways on a Trixie, which is made up of three Doubles and a Treble. Requiring any two legs to win to make a profit, with all three legs giving the full house of Doubles and the 12/1+ Treble.

Total Sets – Trixie:

BET: Trixie: Total Sets – 3 Sets in the three matches listed above
BOOKIES: Best prices with Skybet and Marathonbet (13/1 the Treble), then Betfred, BetVictor, William Hill (around 12/1 the Treble)

  • Also available: other bookies including Bet365, Paddy Power, Coral and 888 Sport call this market ‘Over 2.5 Sets’

In summary…

Here are today’s Bets of the Day (see above for full details):

  • Trixie: Total Sets – 3 Sets in the three matches listed above

There’s no play on the middle Sunday at Wimbledon, so I’ll be back at 8am on Monday with your next Bets of the Day email.

Enjoy the tennis…

Best wishes,
