Good morning and welcome to Day 13 of your Wimbledon 2019 daily service.

Legends of the game…

Match number 40 between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer didn’t quite live up to the classic status of their 2008 Wimbledon epic – but it was a thoroughly engrossing match in its own right. King Roger pulled off the 3-1 win to reach a record 12th Wimbledon Men’s final.

Their Double Faults ‘Tie’ trend didn’t continue this time, with Federer the stronger on serve throughout and the tally finishing 4-1 to Nadal. That’s the first time in 11 meetings where the Double Faults margin between Rafa & Roger has been more than one.

It was another decent enough day for us though with Novak Djokovic beating our outsider pick Roberta Bautista-Agut by three sets to one – landing our 3/1 bet on the 3-1 Set Betting score.

Once again, the Big Three have made all the headlines in the Men’s event. Sunday’s final will line-up as Djokovic v Federer.

Women’s Final:

Serena Williams v Simona Halep

We also have two vastly experienced Grand Slam players in the Women’s final, with Serena’s legendary status already assured and Simona looking to become a multiple Grand Slam champion, having lifted the French Open last year.

Williams is the 1/2 (1.50) favourite today, with Halep the 8/5 (2.60) underdog.

The head-to-head is a dominant 9-1 to Serena. But Halep – who at 27 is 10 years younger than Williams – has pushed her to three sets in their last two meetings, going down 2-1 at the Australian Open this January and also 2-1 at the US Open 2016.

Their only previous meeting on grass was also their first ever meeting, with Serena beating Simona in the 2nd Round at Wimbledon back in 2011 – also by the 2-1 score.

Since returning to the tour after becoming a mother, Williams has reached two Grand Slam finals, losing 2-0 to Naomi Osaka at the US Open last summer and 2-0 to Angelique Kerber at Wimbledon before that.

Halep has lost here last three finals at all levels, and is one from four in Grand Slam championship matches – with the one big trophy win being the most recent, in Paris at Roland Garros last June.

We can expect a good, competitive match this afternoon – which isn’t always the case in Women’s Grand Slam finals. Both women are no stranger to playing in matches of this magnitude.

Having said that, a key factor today could be the pressure…

We don’t know how many years the 37-year-old Serena has left to reach her goal – she’s one Grand Slam title away from matching Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24, and two away from surpassing it to solidify her position in the history books as the GOAT (Greatest of All Time). Williams has felt that pressure in those last two Grand Slam final defeats.

Halep on the other hand appears to be playing with a new-found freedom – making her dangerous here. The ‘never won a Grand Slam title’ tag has been successfully disposed of. After that, Halep then faltered for a while as World No.1. It’s a pattern that we’ve seen in the game before. But having lost the No.1 ranking earlier this year, Simona is now in the sweet spot of being at the top level of the game and playing well – but without the pressure cranked up to overwhelming levels…

Nothing says this clearer to me than the two small words spoken by a happy Simona in her press conference after Friday’s semi-final win: “I’m chill.”

Williams and Halep have met three times in Grand Slams and all three have gone the distance to three sets, with Serena coming through 2-1. For me, today feels like the day for Simona to turn the tables...

Backing the match underdog at an attractive price, Halep to win 2-1 is my pick at 9/2 (5.50) in general and a standout 109/20 (6.45) with Marathonbet.

Today’s bet:

Serena Williams v Simona Halep

BET: Set Betting – Halep to win 2-1 @ 109/20
BOOKIES: 109/20 (6.45) Marathonbet, 9/2 (5.50) in general
