Tennis Betting Advice - July 2020
Today’s plan of attack at 9/2…
Wednesday 29th July 2020
In your Ones to Watch email today:
My bloody-mindedness serves me well in the long run. I’m staying with my self-styled women’s summer ‘2-1 Set Betting’ tactic today…
Yesterday, both of the women’s Singles matches at the Battle of the Brits Team Tennis went the distance to that 2-1 score-line. Katie Boulter v Jo Konta and Alicia Barnett & Maia Lumsden were all on court for over two hours each in their matches.
We got the script we wanted with our 5/1 Set Betting pick on the underdog Barnett, in that the match went to one-set all, and the final-set Champions Tiebreak decider. Lumsden edged it though, with the final result: 5-7, 6-4, 10-7.
Today’s plan of attack at 9/2…
Hunting in the right areas at decent odds is what it’s all about. Today’s headline match is Jodie Burrage v Emma Raducanu…
If the head-to-head is a guide, then we have a fair chance of seeing another long, go-the-distance clash this afternoon…
Both women were impressive in their match wins on day one. Burrage only lost her serve once in a straight-sets victory of Konta. And likewise, for 17-year-old Raducanu against Boulter.
Today’s Match Winner prices have Burrage as the slight favourite at 8/11 (1.73), and Raducanu not far behind at Even Money (2.0).
You can probably already see where I’m going. A close match in store – and the chance of another 2-1 result here…
In the Set Betting market, both women can be backed at around 4/1 (5.0) each to win by the 2-1 score (Bet365, BetVictor). I wouldn’t put you off backing both options there, or splitting your stake, to essentially bet on the match going to a decider.
Bringing my own opinion in on top of what the formbook is saying, I’d give the slightest of edges to the younger player here…
Raducanu is riding a bit of a wave at the moment. The teenager has won five matches in a row this month.
That early July victory over Burrage was in the final of an LTA British Tour event. And if there’s any psychological advantage to be had from that final-set victory going into the today’s match, then it’s also worth noting that Raducanu and her Doubles partner Joe Salisbury beat Burrage and Andy Murray last night. And that one went to a final-set decider, too.
