Back Kvitova on grass today…
Wednesday 15th July 2020
In your Ones to Watch email today:
Stunted Progress…
The Progress Tour Women’s Championships was hit by two more injury withdrawals on Tuesday.
After headline name Heather Watson pulled out at the start of the week, along with Harriet Dart. Eden Silva joined the list of withdrawals before play began yesterday. And Katie Swan was forced to retire injured halfway through her opening match.
The group that Swan headed up now drops down to just three players. And with two women from that group still needed to go through to the semi finals, that’s means our Outright Winner pick Maia Lumsden can get back into contention with a match win this afternoon.
Lumsden threw away a 3-0 lead in the final set v Freya Christie yesterday. To be fair, Christie was the stronger player on the day. Lumsden is 1/2 (1.5) to beat Alicia Barnett today (2pm).
Petra loves the grass…
There are over 150 matches on the worldwide tennis schedule today. One I like the look of is at the women’s Bett1 Aces event on grass courts in Berlin – scheduled for a 12.30pm start…
Elina Svitolina v Petra Kvitova
This is the final of the women’s mini-tournament at the Steffi Graf Stadium. Back in May we had a winner on Kvitova in similar circumstances. The Czech is one of the best competitors on tour. If Petra hears the word ‘final,’ you can be assured that she’ll be full steam going for the win…
As you might expect from a two-time Wimbledon champion, grass is Kvitova’s favourite surface. A fact she reiterated in interview yesterday:
“Definitely it’s my favourite surface to play on, so I’m really glad that I can play here.”
The career stats are damning here. Kvitova has a 7-2 head-to-head record v Svitolina. And six of those seven wins have come in straight sets, 2-0.
Kvitova is 1/3 (1.33) across the board to win today’s match. To squeeze up the price and make use of that formbook dominance, the 2-0 Set Betting route pays around 5/6 (1.83).
