Olympic Tennis - and a 16/1 shot for Atlanta...

Monday 26th July 2021

In Ones to Watch today:

  • ATP Atlanta…
  • 16/1 pick in the USA…
  • Tokyo Olympics Tennis – waiting on prices…

We signed off the grass court season with a win-win final at Rhode Island last week…

Our 7/1 pick Kevin Anderson lifted the ATP Newport trophy – his first tour title since 2019.

It was age v experience in that USA Hall of Fame championship final. With the 35-year-old Anderson beating our 20-year-old Ones to Watch youngster, Jenson Brooksby, in the final. The young American was in the book for us at top prices of 22/1 & 20/1 Each Way, for a half-the-odds payout as runner-up. That was Brooksby’s first ever full ATP Tour final, and his debut grass appearance, too.

  • The match prices will be short, but you might want to keep an eye on Brooksby this week, as he drops back down to the lower-tier ATP Challenger Tour to compete on the hard courts at Lexington, USA. Jenson has made the final in 4 of his last 5 Challenger events this year, winning 3

16/1 shot for Atlanta…

This week the North American hard-court swing kicks off with the build-up to the US Open. The men are in action in the USA at ATP Atlanta

Americans have done very well in Atlanta over the years, with USA players taking the title eight times out of 10.

The last five ‘home’ wins all went to John Isner, who has lifted the trophy here five times in his last seven visits, and made the final in six out of seven. Isner is 6/1 across the boards this week, and given his record here, the 36-year-old will no doubt have plenty of backers, even at that price.

However, the 6’10” American is in the same quarter of the draw as tournament favourite and Ones to Watch name, Jannik Sinner. The 19-year-old Italian was a 33/1 runner-up for us on hard courts at the ATP 1000 Miami Masters this spring. He’s much shorter in the betting at this smaller, ATP 250-grade tournament this week – at just 4/1.

For another tall, big-serving American with a good record in Atlanta and when playing at home in the States, Reilly Opelka is the man for me at 16/1 & 14/1. He’s reached the semi finals two times out of three here. He could line up as a semi-final opponent against Isner or Sinner this week.

Standing 6’11” with a serve to go with it, Reilly has the weapons to deliver on these courts. The 23-year-old American has won two ATP titles so far in his career, both on hard courts in the United States (New York and Delray Beach). Both those events were also ATP 250 level. And Opelka went off at similar odds to this week’s prices, 14/1 and 12/1, respectively. He’s available at top prices of 16/1 and 14/1 here.

Tokyo Olympics Tennis – waiting on prices…

The delayed 2020 Olympics is underway in Japan. The Women’s Tennis event has already seen a few shocks, with the likes of world no.1 Ashleigh Barty, and fellow Grand Slam winners Iga Swiatek, and Petra Kvitova, all already knocked out in the early rounds.

I’ve got my eye on a player that can go well in the hot conditions in Tokyo. I’m waiting for the bookies to refresh their Outright Winner prices, before play continues overnight, from 3am Tuesday morning, UK time. I’ll report back later today or tonight, if we’re able to strike at a nice price…
