Wimbledon: Women's picks at 20/1 and 25/1...

Monday 8th July 2024

Wimbledon – Email #4

Good morning. As anticipated, we have yet another wide-open women’s Grand Slam on our hands…

The world no.1 is out. The reigning champion is out. Just two of the world’s Top 10 are left standing. And the quarter-final line-up hasn’t even been fully decided yet…

Today’s women’s matches start from 1.30pm. I’ve got two final selections for us today…

In the men’s, our pair of 40/1 picks, Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul, are still alive and kicking as I write.

We’ve had five big-odds darts in the women’s Outright Winner market so far, but all have bounced off the board. With the absolute carnage that’s taken place in the draw thus far, there could well be another new name on the Wimbledon trophy come Saturday teatime…

Two players I like at the prices today – both in 4th round, last 16 action this afternoon:

Danielle Collins and Anna Kalinskaya.

These are two of 2024’s standout performers. Collins has won the biggest title of her career (WTA Miami Open), and reached three finals in total. In what’s set to be her retirement year, the 30-year-old American is playing the best, full-throttle tennis of her life.

Danielle says she has an emotional attachment to Wimbledon since first coming here at the start of her pro career. The world no.11’s passion and drive were in full evidence in week one, and she’s yet to drop a set. With the decimated field looking as it now does, our former Australian Open runner-up may never have a better chance to win a Grand Slam. Let’s take odds of 20/1 – 14/1 today…

  • Collins is 2-0 v Kalinskaya, with both meetings coming last season – and both going to the full three sets. They could meet in the semi finals this week…

Kalinskaya is still priced at 20/1+ this morning, as she takes on the biggest and highest-ranked name left on the sheet, former Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina. These two have known each other since they were very young, both originally from Moscow – although world no.4 Rybakina now represents Kazakhstan.

World no.18 Kalinskaya is having the best season of her career. The 25-year-old Russian made the quarter finals at the Australian Open, with her outsider run only halted by our underdog pick (and eventual finalist), Qinwen Zheng.

Anna then ran into another streaking player at the big WTA 1000 event in Dubai, reaching the final – only to be defeated by our 150/1 Each Way French Open friend, Jasmine Paolini.

Last month, Kalinskaya reached a WTA final on grass in Berlin. So far here at SW19, she has zipped through the opening three rounds with a hat-trick of straight-sets wins.

Kalinskaya has won two out of three previous completed meetings with Rybakina. Should she pull off the upset today, then she won’t be trading at 25/1 anymore…

And another thing…

Anna’s boyfriend is current men’s world no.1, Jannik Sinner. There are plenty of good vibes around those two players at the moment. Off-court happiness can translate into confidence and success on the court…
